Normally I have granola in yogurt or peanut butter on whole grain toast for breakfast, but work is getting to me…
But by lunch I was back to my usual semi-healthy fair.

It’s a jungle out there
Poison in the very air we breathe
Do you know what’s in the water that you drink?
Well I do, and it’s amazing

I don’t feel well, but I was running low on a few staples like caffeine, bottled water, milk, breakfast, lunch, dinner…Because I wasn’t feeling well, of course, I headed right for the convenience foods. You can’t see that I have oranges and cut up fruit in there but I do. Honest. It’s just hidden behind the T.V. dinners.

I put in a call to my GP this morning about the pain in my stomach, right side and back, as well as my migraine, bloatiness and lack of appetite. I said straight out that I’m not going back to the E.R. (or E.D. — interesting that since that series started most actual E.R.’s now want to be called Emergency Departments) and I don’t want to pop oxycodone all the time — makes me too sleepy and discombobulated, and that’s saying something.
As it is all morning I’ve been trying to pry my eyes open. I can’t decide if it’s not feeling well, leftovers from last night’s oxycodone, or just my regular morning meds…or a combination of them all. It’s very hard to program with your eyes closed. OK It’s not hard to program that way. It’s hard to do the analysis part of my job that way and I’ve been trying to go through papers and notes and code from 9 months ago and figure out what was done and why and what wasn’t done and why not and who decided what because last Friday someone got ants in their pants to actually finally go-live with their project after letting it sit for 9 months and it still doesn’t have anyone in charge. Oy!
So, while my brain is trying to sleep and wake up and sort out my lack of filing system, I’m now apparently waiting for the surgeon to get out of surgery around 3pm to talk to my GP to discuss what to do about me and my pain and my possible 2nd gallstone attack.
And what I’d really rather be doing is going to the grocery store or paying someone to go to the grocery store and having someone do my dishes while I take a nap or watch my finches. In fact, I still need to get a photo for today and I’m trying to figure out how to capture a picture that represents the pain I’m feeling. Any ideas?

The icy snow in the air was freezing to my windshield before my defroster and windshield wipers could do anything about it. I was driving at a snail’s pace. In fact, my speedometer doesn’t register the speed I was going it was so slow. ![]()

Looks like a we might finally have got a sign that Winter might be coming to Maine…maybe…

Someone once commented that I dress like a “conservative Bostoner/New Yorker.” I’m not sure what that means since I’m from New Orleans. Normally I wear fall colors and a lot of brown and black mixed with a lot of orange and the occasional lime green.
But I have a secret, one that the accupuncturist and my physical therapist both pointed out this week — I almost always wear brightly colored socks!
Almost no one ever looks at your feet, so it’s my secret surprise, my happy feet, my wild, kinky, outgoing, hippy, mismatched, joyful feet!

You know that creepy back hallway you need a security badge to get out of that I mentioned yesterday? Well, here it is…
Never know who might be lurking in there that might want to just wander into our work area and steal our valuable…erm…pens and pencils.
Take a look at the ceiling…it’s evidence that the building is a converted parking garage.

Where I work, if you don’t have a security badge, you can’t get back from the dimly lit hall where the bathrooms are to the office without wedging the door open with a trashcan. We’ve been told this is a serious security violation as that could lead to just anyone wandering in.
There used to be a “guest” badge for visitors of the building to borrow — you know, those folks who have meetings in the conference room, consultants, schmucks who’ve left their real security badges on their bathroom sinks next to their watches…but a visiting contractor who was installing the new video part of the improved security system borrowed it and never returned it.
So…a big part of my day today was committing security violations and here’s the photo to prove it.

Since the beginning of December, I’ve been going twice a week to physical therapy in this warm water pool to treat my fibromyalgia. This week I’m switching to once a week on land and once a week in the water. I’m going to miss the comfort of not sweating during my aerobic workout.
However, an hour in warm water always makes me a little “rushed” afterward…just saying.

You wouldn’t know it from looking at my desk at work, but I really have cut way down on my caffeine. I’m just way too sleepy now to carry the empties to the recycle bin.
By the way, I edited this picture using the online editor at pxn8.com, which I heard about from Amber Rhea (PXN8: Awesome online photo editor) a while back and for some reason saved the post. Maybe I fore-knew that I’d be lured into this challenge.
One of the things I’ve noticed just in this week is that I’m going through life looking at things just a little bit different already. I look at everything as a possible picture, as a possible future picture…I think I’m even going through life a little slower. I’m definitely taking a closer, observatory look at the world around me as I drive to work or walk around or get ready for work or whatever. When I look at other people’s pictures, I’m trying to figure out how they captured the shot, the lighting, the angle, etc. I have a deeper appreciation for the more difficult shots.
I’ve been wondering if other folks have noticed this change in themselves.
And…it’s encouraged me to improve myself. I’ve ordered books on beginning photography and gadgets like the Monster Pod and Gorillapod Flexible Tripod and put a better camera on my wishlist all in the hopes of improving my ability so that by the end of this project, I’m not just snapping shots, I’m creating art.

I’ve been playing with my camera and my stained glass piece in my picture window; I like the way the beveled piece on the left shows in the photo. I only have two crab apple trees in my front yard, by the way.

This is the view from my kitchen table. I love watching the birds lunching at the bird feeder outside in my front yard while I’m eating. Being able to watch t.v. too is nice too.

This is a used bookstore and novelty shop in Portland, ME. You can find everything from old vinyl records to stuffed Ewok collectibles to retro 70’s lava lamps.
It always makes me think there should be a quirky t.v. show about it when I pass it.

I start my morning with all but two of those bottles on the bottom two rows, thanks to all my medical problems. One of these, two of those.
Don’t think the other two bottles get ignored. Those are the night meds.
The top shelf has the pain meds for those days when the migraines and fibromyalgia is unignorable. Though, technically, I don’t take the aleeve or ibuprophen anymore. They’re just there for company now.
I vaguely remember when I used to just take a vitamin C every morning.

Pugly hates riding in the car. I haven’t figured out why. He generally likes wherever we go — doggy daycare, Planet Dog, visiting folks. However, he hates the ride. He generally sits with his little head pressed against the seat, either with his eyes closed or staring at me with those puppy-dog “are we there yet” eyes.
Sometimes I think he’s just motion sick. He’s thrown up a couple of times.
But then other times I think he’s just afraid of my driving. He seems most to dislike the curves. Kind of hurts my feelings to think about.
Either way, I always feel bad and I try to pet him at stops and talk to him and tell him where we are going and how much fun we are going to have when we get there. He always seems relieved when the car turns off.

Everyone’s doing it.
Yup, I’m a joiner.
Actually, now that I’ve read up on it and realized that you don’t have to take a picture of yourself every day for a year like Mac is doing over at peskyapostrophe, I’m not so scared of it.
Basically, I just need to take a photo every day for 365 days. The challenge is to take some sort of interesting photo every day and at least one picture of myself every month. I can handle 12 photos of myself. Heck, I’ve got one down now, right? Here I am looking a little unsure about the whole thing.
Seems like an interesting challenge.
