Well, it turns out that postponing my surgery might have been an extremely fortuitous turn of events though I was bullied into it by my co-workers who wanted to make sure I did my share of the work while they went on vacation. Heh.
I’ve been seeing a GI Specialist, you know, and he happened to notice that no one followed up on one particular piece of blood work after my visit to the ER in December when I had my Gallstone attack. Something about some liver enzyme level or something being high. Anyway, this could apparently be a sign that

Yup, that’s me.
I’d been feeling unwell since last Sunday, as you know, but Thursday, the diarrhea and vomiting hit me in the afternoon. Well, my stomach started feeling really unwell in that way you know it’s going to be “upset” right before lunch.
Anyway, the low-grade fever, the stomach cramps, headaches, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting that they’ve been reporting on the news — all true. Two days of misery — true. And if you think you get to sleep between “episodes”, you’re wrong. You get to stare at the wall and the ceiling. You try to avoid the quick moving

- Wow, halfway through January already?
- I’m feeling slightly better, just some residual pain in my back and right side but not feeling like I’m splitting in half anymore.
- Pugly is acting very odd lately. I’ve been having to carry him to the car every morning to go to doggy daycare and sometimes I have to catch him to put the leash on him to go outside. Then there’s the weird matter of him not wanting to jump down from the car when we get home. Very strange little dog.
- I’ve been watching HBO’s Rome and I just love love love

I put in a call to my GP this morning about the pain in my stomach, right side and back, as well as my migraine, bloatiness and lack of appetite. I said straight out that I’m not going back to the E.R. (or E.D. — interesting that since that series started most actual E.R.’s now want to be called Emergency Departments) and I don’t want to pop oxycodone all the time — makes me too sleepy and discombobulated, and that’s saying something.
As it is all morning I’ve been trying to pry my eyes open. I can’t decide if it’s not

Looking back in hindsight, the pain actually started Wednesday night. I mistakingly thought it was due to doing to much as is sometimes the case with my fibromyalgia. I had been going through boxes. O.K. I had gone through every single unopened box left in my house from the attic eaves to the basement to the garage. Every hiding place, trying to find some missing items that I suspect my have been “taken” by either the moving men, the cable guy(s), or the phone repair man. Anyway, my back had starting hurting and I

Sounds a bit ghastly, doesn’t it?
Gastroparesis is the diagnosis resulting from that stomach-emptying test I had last week. You know, the one where I ate the radioactive eggs all the while they were talking about how the Russian spy was poisoned with radioactive sushi?
Anyway, turns out that in 90 minutes, those eggs were supposed to be at least half gone from my stomach, but they were only a quarter gone. They were just hanging out in there like everything else does. I just don’t understand why I’m not losing weight since I eat slow and everything digests slow.

I got all distracted telling you about the alternative medicine and nutrition thing and forgot to mention how I spent Monday afternoon. That’s when my stomach emptying test was scheduled.
So, I went to the Nuclear Medicine department at the hospital and they had me eat radioactive eggs. I’m not kidding here. I had to wear a bib and latex gloves so as not to get any on me, only in my mouth and the guy doing the test stood like 5 feet away from me while I was

I spent Monday focusing on my stomach.
Well, sort of.
Monday morning, I met with two GPs, who specialize in alternative medicine, specifically nutrition. Rather, I was referred to them to get counsellings on what changes to make to my nutritional diet to decrease inflammation in my body since I can no longer take anti-inflammatory drugs due to my kidney disease. I guess I kind of expected to get a list of foods to avoid and a list of foods to eat and a sample diet and have that be it, but that’s not really how it went.
First, I’m being referred to

It’s been a day.
The office is being repainted this week so I’ve been breathing in fumes since Tuesday. To top it off on Tuesday I forgot to take my morning meds which was like the 3rd or 4th thing I forgot that morning and by that time I really couldn’t go back home again. It’s been a week of forgetting at least one or two things every morning — stupid time change.
Anyway, normally missing one day doesn’t really affect me. Missing two in a row is a nightmare. Well, apparently those days are over with the new blood pressure medicine.

It’s official. It’s a relief to know that I have two diagnoses and two treatment plans now.
The kidney biopsy results apparently led to both diagnoses.
IgA Nephropathy
It’s an autoimmune kidney disease, as I said. The Nephrologist said the prognosis is very good. We have caught it very early — though probably I had it 4 years ago when I saw that Nephrologist who didn’t really run any tests and just dismissed me so I could have caught it even sooner. My kidney functions are still excellent and don’t appear to be damaged yet. She is changing

My brain is way too scattered and full of anxiety to focus on one particular nifty topic this week. So, now you get to see the really true discombobulated, highly anxious me.

What if the sale on the little red house doesn’t fall through and I do get it and it turns into a money pit?
- What if those nice flippers are taking advantage of me because I’m a naive first time buyer and I don’t know what I’m doing?
- What if my dog is depressed? He’s been lethargic and hasn’t been eating at home, but the doggie daycare folks say he’s hyper and playful there. Maybe he just hates me.

So, I saw my GP yesterday afternoon. We went over the concerns of the Rheumy with the blood in the urine; plus I got a copy of the results of some of my lab work that the Rheumy did at his office. I don’t understand much of it, but I have a copy of it now. (By the way, it says I have 16 of 18 of the trigger points for myalgia but my alarming Sed rate is what keeps me from the fibromyalgia diagnosis…that’s what’s written on the paperwork.)
Anyway, one of the things that the Rheumy

Well, I saw the surgeon yesterday and it’s taken me a while to digest what he had to say. Really I wasn’t sure how I felt about it.
The surgeon told me that he’s not going to do the surgery; he’s not convinced that it will relieve my symptoms. Yes, I have gallstones and they are indeed all sitting in there hanging about, but there’s no proof that they are menacing me in any way, he said. Apparently, he thinks my symptoms are from “something else”.
You know, that mysterious ellusive “something else” that has been haunting and taunting

My shrink challenged me last Tuesday to imagine waking up well one morning. Obviously, not completely well, but free of certain symptoms like my GI issues. For instance, I’ve had some sort of GI issue or another since I was 18 years old. I don’t really remember what life was like for my body prior to that.
What would it be like to wake up one morning and not have “issues”?
Coincidentally, the last two days, as if God were trying to tell me something, I’ve had horrible stomach issues despite any kind of medication or attempts at bland

I had my ultrasound this morning. My spleen, my kidneys, and my liver didn’t betray me, but my gallbladder…
I’ve always prided myself on being all original parts and all in one piece, except for my wisdom teeth — I had no control over that. My parents were still in co-ownership of my person at that time.
Now, apparently I have gallstones. The tech told me that they’re caused by dairy, which doesn’t make sense to me since dairy is supposed to be one of those things nutritionists tell us we need more of. Granted, Read the rest of this entry »

Just wanted to follow up from Friday. The Endoscopy went well. The doctor said I have no ulcers. Didn’t look like there was anything to be concerned about in my innerds. Basically I don’t think he saw anything that could be causing the acid reflux at the level I’ve been having it.
The drugs have made me a little loopy. My experience has been that it takes me a bit for them to get completely out of my system. I’ll be slipping up with words and forgetting what I was saying and all sorts of

OK Light on posting today. Going in for an endoscopy procedure this afternoon which requires fasting since midnight. Feeling a bit light-headed, migrained and ill as a result.
Plus, the whole getting a ride into work and then getting a ride there and a ride home has been a complete nightmare in itself too.
I need one of those butlers that superheroes have like Batman’s Alfred to take care of me in these times of crisis.
At the very least I need a cookie and some water.

Well, today was the big visit with the doctor. In preparation, I emailed her a few days ago with a list of things that I absolutely needed to talk to her about and why and the two most important issues were the acid reflux and the muscular pain in my legs and elsewhere.
O.K. So I’ve got a new temp prescription for Prevacid but I have to go on Tuesday for bloodwork and when I come back I’ve got to have some tests for ulcers and for my gall bladder. I’m very tender to touch where my gall bladder

So, yesterday, while everyone else was getting all hot and bothered about Abu Musab al-Zarqawi’s death — something I took at first with a bit of cynicism since he’d already been killed about 4 or 5 other times this year — or busy calling their Congressman to learn just how dedicicated he or she is to the sanctity of marriage — I’ve kind of enjoyed reading some of the transcripts from the liberal bloggers with too much time on their hands who want to know if their Senators masterbate (I can’t believe I typed that, Mom) — I was considering
