This week’s list(posted early due to my medical stay) is stuff I’ve found that I think is really cool but I just can’t justify buying for myself (and I don’t play the lotto), but seeing as I’m single and live alone, there’s not really anyone around here but the animals to hint at that I want it other than my parents and, well, let’s just not go into the whole online-wishlist-ordering-online-fiasco thing…

Birding Company Maine Bay Window feeder — Can you imagine what fun my cats and my dog would have with this little beauty? I just think it would be better than television.
Knit Lite Knitting Needles — Knitting needles that light up in the dark. How cool is that? I mean, I have a problem with lighting because it tends to trigger headaches with me — something that not all doctors get (it’s like my face gets flushed on the side that the light is coming from and then if I stay that way to long, a headache with develop and if I don’t treat it, a migraine, etc.). If I had these, I could keep knitting even after I’ve had to turn the lamp off maybe.

You know what I was wondering the other day? How come you always hear about Ben Afleck’s girl friends/ fiances/ etc, but you never hear about Matt Damon’s?
I mean, they’re in almost every movie the other has made, even in tiny roles. They grew up together. It’s plain odd that we always hear about Ben’s women and never Matt’s escpecially since it’s clear that he’s the one that’s more attractive and more talented.
I’m just saying. Read the rest of this entry »

- If you could have a view of anything you wanted from your bedroom window, what would you choose? I was a true city girl before I moved to Maine, but now I really like seeing trees outside my window; I like knowing what season it is by studying their branches. This week there’s been this soft natural orange glow filling my room from the changing leaves outside. That’s something I didn’t get with the view of the canal in New Orleans.
- Have you ever tried Red Bull? Did you like it? I’ve never tried it.

I got this meme from James.
- How tall are you barefoot? 5′ 1-3/4″
- Have you ever flown first-class? Yes, once. During that horrible travel day last Christmas season trying to get to my parents’. One of the flights I got rerouted on happened to be a first-class seat. It would have been enjoyable if I hadn’t had to wait 100 years in the Boston Logan airport first.
- One of your favorite books when you were a child? Charlotte’s Web.
- A good restaurant in your city: Bibo’s Madd Apple Cafe.
- What is your favorite small appliance? my yogurt maker.
- One person that never fails to make you laugh? A person? What about a dog? My Pugly makes me laugh all of the time even when he doesn’t mean to. I can’t think of a person who does that.
- What’s your favorite Christmas song? “I’ll Be Home For Christmas”
- What was the first music that you ever bought? Mickey Mouse Disco. Don’t laugh. I loved that albumn. It was vinyl too.
- Do you do push-ups? No.
- What was one of your favorite games as a child? Lava. You know, where the floor is lava and will melt you so you have to stick to jumping from furniture to furniture piece to keep from getting eaten by the lava.

O.K. This is both a cheat and a shameless plug for The Weekend Chef. I am neither ashamed nor apologetic. I love cooking and I love sharing my recipes. So, this week this is what you get.

- Aunt J’s Easy Crispy Sweet Pecan Granola — I recently visited my aunt and she made this fantabulous granola for breakfast. It was so fantabulous in fact that I just couldn’t wait to try it out for myself and was completely surprised at how simple and easy it is to make. Now I have homemade granola to mix in with my homemade yogurt every morning.
- Baked Ziti Casserole — I picked up this one from a Weight Watchers cookbook. It’s low-fat but full of wonderful flavor and texture. Plus, it’s simple and easy to make.
- Puttanesca Sauce — I first had puttanesca sauce in a restaurant in New Orleans and couldn’t resist hunting down a recipe so I could have it whenever I wanted it at home.
The name originated in Naples after the local women of easy virtue. Pasta Puttanesca means “The way a whore would make it”, but the reason why the dish gained such a name is debated. One possibility is that the name is a reference to the sauce’s hot, spicy flavour and smell. Another is that the dish was offered to prospective customers at a low price to entice them into a house of ill repute. According to chef Jeff Smith of the Frugal Gourmet, its name came from the fact that it was a quick cheap meal that prostitutes could prepare between customers. [Wikipedia]

Casanova
Lasse Hallstrom’s witty romantic comedy stars Heath Ledger as Jacamo Casanova, the infamous and dashing player of 18th century Venice who holds the key to every woman’s heart — all but one, that is. Francesca (Sienna Miller) detests the lothario’s conquering approach to matters of love and rallies against him in her writing … which only makes her more alluring. But to win her over, Casanova must first decide what kind of man he truly is.
I thought this was a rather charming movie, reminescent of Shakespearian mistaken identities and misunderstandings. Certainly it has a touch of Taming of the Shrew but with a less distasteful ending for those of us who thought Kate was a little too submissive at the end of William’s version.

It’s that time of week again…
Random Joy
- Where does Jell-o fall in the liquid to solid spectrum? This is one of those chicken-or-the-egg questions, isn’t it? There’s really no way to know the real answer. Jell-o is always on the verge of being liquid even in it’s solid form. It’s an unstable form as a solid, so I guess I’d say it’s only ever 99% solid.
- What’s your favourite black and white movie? It’s a Wonderful Life.
- Who’s voice(singing and/or speaking)irritates you the most? George W. Bush. I have to read all of his speeches later.

Accept certain inalienable truths.
Prices will rise, Politicians will philander, you too will get old.
And when you do, you’ll fantasize that when you were young,
prices were reasonable, politicians were noble, and children respected their elders.
[…]
Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it.
Advice is a form of nostalgia; dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts, and recycling it for more than its worth.

In keeping with my generally depressed and pissy mood, even though I’m kind of happy to be leaving to go out of town today, even though flying and travelling completely freak and stress me out, I’ve decided to go with pet peeves for this week’s Thursday Thirteen. In particular, I’m focusing on pet peeves involving people since it’s people who’ve been irritating and hurting me this week.
I think this will be a good, healthy outlet for the pain.
No. Really.

Today may not be the day to be trying to answer these. I’m pissed, I’m stressed, I’m depressed, and I have a migraine. Then again, it is the Monday’s a Bitch meme…
On a scale of 1-10, how _____________ are you? (Feel free to elaborate on why you chose your answer).
- Extroverted — Depends on the situation and who’s with me. If my old circle of friends are with me and we’re out and about, I’m way extraverted, like a 7 or an 8. If I’m alone, I’m a 1 - 3. Even online it could be a crapshoot. Mostly,

So, these are the men of my past wet dreams. They made my teen years and my twenties all dreamy like.
I like to think I’m beyond that now.
O.K. I like to think I have better taste now.

I’m trying out this Monday meme to amuse myself. O.K. I just liked the title because it has “bitch” in it.
The End of Summer
1. How did you spend your last summer weekend? Pretty much sick and lazy and resting in bed except when I was posting or playing with my dog.
2. What was your song of the summer? I didn’t have one. I didn’t know I was supposed to. Maybe that theme from Monk if it’s required.
3. Did you have a summer fling? That still requires meeting people, right?

Last week’s Official Thursday Thirteen post issued a challenge for this week: To list 13 Things I Like About Myself. I’ve been putting some thought to the challenge because as the challenger said, I do spend a lot of time scrutinizing myself and I do forget that there are good things. However, I’m glad I had a whole week to think about this one because it was a struggle for me since I tend to be very self negative. I think this was a good exercise.

We all have these movies. You know what they are. You’re flipping through the channels or the tv guide and there it is. It’s not an Emmy winner. It wasn’t even that great the first (hundred) time(s) you saw it. But you can’t help yourself. You’re drawn to it. Your fingers automatically work the remote control and the next thing you know, you’re sitting mesmerized on the futon with a Big Gulp in one hand and another hand stuffed in a half empty bag of Baked Doritos and the credits are rolling and you can’t remember how you got there…
These are thirteen of mine…

So…I saw this over at Danielle’s initially and I’m not entirely sure I “get” it (because I’m old and easily confused), but I’m going to try it out anyway…and I’m stealing her topic too.

Thirteen Things I Wanna Be When I Growd Up
- Drummer in a band - I so wanted to be Melody from Josie and the Pussycats.
- Book Store Owner - what better way to pass your time than having free access to every book you ever wanted to read?
