I saw this the other day and couldn’t help but think that this cartoon represents the quintessential problem with world today, particularly with Americans. No one is listening to each other. I really want to say that hard-core rightwingers are the worst perpetrators, but really it’s the hard-core anyones — rightwingers just happen to be the most visible right at the moment in the U.S.

12. A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.
13. Nobody cares if you can’t dance well. Just get up and dance.

Beloit College has released its latest “Mindset List,” to help academics understand what freshmen know — and what they don’t have a clue about. This list has been prepared each August since 1998 and past lists are available online. [“What Your Freshmen Don’t Know” (Inside Higher Ed)]
Here is this year’s list, for the Class of 2010. I’ve bolded the ones that really made me feel old. Which ones make you feel old?

I must say when I happened about this post at Punkassblog.com, I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. It’s so true and so inspiring.
Clearly, the left blogosphere has been annointed the moral police of the world. In case you hadn’t noticed, everyone on the Right gets incensed whenever we fail to erupt in outrage over whatever’s got their momentary goat. This can only mean one thing: they need our moral validation.
It’s mighty big of wingnuttery to just hand over the needle of the moral compass to us Western-facing souls, and we ought to handle our job with care.

Today’s B.C. cartoon was too good not to share.

This Thursday, July 20th, My Wonderful Dog, an organization that trains service dogs for people with disabilities, will host Maine’s Dog Fest, a nationwide film festival for dogs and their people — dogless people are welcome too. I’m told by the My Wonderful Dog representative I met during puppy play group at Planet Dog over the weekend that it’ll be kind of like a night at the drive-in with your doggies. (If it rains, the date will be moved to July 27th.)
