I think you were courageous too. It’s a massive step to move far away, and it sounds like your making the most of it. I mean, how many people want a big change in their life, but never follow through?

I left a perfectly good job with an airline 15 years ago to go back to Louisiana and to collge again (La Tech). When I was saying goodbye to my coworkers, they were incredulous. In my six+ years with Delta, I had known exactly two people out of literally thousands who had left the company because they wanted to. At the time, Delta was doing great, and my friends thought I was nuts. Now Delta is a hair away from folding, and what friends I still keep up with, say it’s not a very fun place to work anymore. You have to follow your heart, regardless of what the intellect says.

OMG…this is too, too freaky! This is my exact topic this week, and even though I posted an hour after you, I promise this is the first time I’ve even opened bloglines today!!!

The even scarier thing is your #8 and #11 are similar (very) to my #13 and #4!

Well, I’ve had my eerie, wierd feeling for the day! lol

The mugging incident is too hilarious!

I believe everything happens for a reason and works together for good…I’m glad your move was for the good (and that you’ve been able to find the goodin it).

Snort out loud on #4! Why is it that when you’re a single woman over a certain age, and you’re not dating anyone that moves, people start thinking you no longer like men?

I’m working on it, but it’s a challenge.

On the PC stuff, I totally hear ya. My aunt sold PC for a while and my mom and I actually groaned audibly when she called us for a party.

Ghosts scare the crap out of me…I’m always having dreams there is a ghost in my son’s room and she’s standing over his crib watching him. She never really does anything…but it still scares the crap out of me. I wake up in a panic and run to check on him.

I’m glad you now know the name of the book you were looking for ~ I LOVE Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs…really one of my absolute faves!

What a great list! You are a courageous woman in my book. Moving is such a challenge! And to move to Maine from Louisiana had to have been an enourmous culture-shock!

Great list. I’ve started NaNoWriMo this month, but life is getting in the way of my daily 1667. I’ve written maybe 1100 words? LOL

RE: Religion. I’m actually quite a devote Mormon, so my faith in God and Christ is very strong, but I have been a bad fit for religion all my life. I can relate with much of what you write about. The narrowminded sheep that seem to occupy positions of authority in strict religions don’t like non-conformists. They don’t like free thinkers. They certainly don’t like me. Good thing for me their opinions don’t matter much in the Cosmic Scheme of things.

I relocated in 2002, from the Pacific Northwest to my current location. I was most unthrilled. (OTOH, I found out I can pack up everything I own in four days. Not sure how that skill will come in useful…but there it is.)

Signs…yeah. That Mel Gibson definitely is a scary sight. Yet another Culkin child - even more unsettling. (Vous, sarcastic, moi?)

I am so sorry your innards are giving you fits! It takes time to track these things down and it’s very frustrating. I’ll say an extra prayer! I love the movie Signs; the script wasn’t brilliant but I love Juaquin Phoenix in this role. And I definately think you should write more. Love your voice, your world view and your take on things!

Moving cross country is always hard - especially if you’re moving somewhere you’ve never spent any significant time at and don’t have any family there. I know how upsetting it can be at first and how amazing finding a new place where you seem to “fit” can be. I hope you continue to be lucky in Maine.
