Thursday Thirteen House Hunting Ponderings (#10)
This week’s post obviously is the result of my recent house hunt wanderings. Clearly I have my own opinions and sense of style. None of my comments are meant to insult so please take this post in the spirit of the Thursday Thirteen meme — an opportunity to get to know each other…here’s me. Feel free to comment and opinion right back. I’d like to get to know you too.

- Seriously. $500K is a bit too much to be asking if you have the pinkest bathroom ever and a Space Shuttle mural in the living room.
- I honestly don’t understand pink carpet.
- Or wallpaper. Enough with the wall-ruining wallpaper.
- Why do people paint perfectly good bricks?
- How is it that wood panelling still exists?
- How do people survive without dishwashers?
- What the hell is a “point” and how do you pay for them?
- How can anyone afford to buy a home these days?
- Blue laminate countertops in the kitchen are just wrong.
- Hardwood floors are the way to go.
- It’s Maine. Mud rooms and attached garages are the only way to go for Winter.
- Really. Explain this whole pink carpet thing.
- What’s with oversized living room furniture?

LOL! I LOVE househunting. I have vivid memories of one house with wood paneling and long shag carpeting in various shades of brown. In 1997. Another one with a bright green tile fireplace. And one with a completely bright teal room–the walls, the carpeting, the ceiling, the drapes.
It made me feel positively normal.

I agree - hardwork floor is the way to go.
And pink carpet? Oh my. That’s just so wrong.
Good luck finding a house! And happy TT.

i think it’s a shame how much a house costs. Everyone just lives in debt, I guess.

Very crankily. I speak from experience. Have never had one. Need to remedy that, and soon!
Hardwood floors rock. Just a warning, though: kitties run V. LOUDLY on them. And you’ll need really good socks/slippers in winter. Still, I wouldn’t trade them!

I love the pitter-patter of little paw feet on tile and hardwood.
And I have thought about the slipper issue. It sounds like a good excuse to shop for cute slippers. You know how I love shopping for things that go on my feet.

When we were looking at houses a number of years ago, we walked into this one and the owner was in the middle of wallpapering the kitchen. What the heck she was thinking, we have no idea. Every inch of wallpaper in that house — and there was a lot of it — has since been removed by us!

Oh, rats! My last comment didn’t go through.
I love hard wood floors and so does my cat. And pink carpet? Urgh.

Any excuse to shop for cute footwear is a good one, you’re right!
I know, the pitter patter is hilarious. And LOUD. Although that’s only really our two kittens, who at 8 months are still fully immersed in the running around like nutbars stage of their lives … LOL!

They paint bricks for the same reason that the previous owner of my trailer SPRAY PAINTED it instead of using regular paint…because they are morons.
Thanks for stopping by my TT.

Congratulations! Cute house!!!
We’re hoping to buy something one day soon–the prices are just ridiculous though! I love to look through the Home & Land books, but haven’t really looked yet.
I have to have a dishwasher too…and there’s no way I could do pink anything!
I did wallpaper paneling once…it was better than the paneling!

The living room had one long wall of windows that revealed this gorgeous Asian garden, but it also had this one wall with this giant mural of the Space Shuttle floating over the Earth.
It was the most expensive house I looked at too. I happened to look because it’s a house I’ve admired from the outside for a couple of years and I just noticed it went up for sale.
Boy, you never know from the street what people are doing to their walls.

Wallpaper is some crazy stuff. I figure I’m pretty much guaranteed to be tired of whatever I put on my walls within 3 years or so, and no matter what they say, wallpaper is simply impossible to remove. So basically you have to rebuild your walls every 3 years. Yeah, that’s practical.

We are looking to buy a house too, and are planning to make an offer in the next day or two. It IS nerve-racking and with all the different interpretations of style (and I ues that term loosely) it is amazing that any of us ever find anything…all the best to you, though…:-)

Sounds like our house hunting experience! The house we bought was covered with paneling on the walls. We were in northern WI and you couldn’t find ANYTHING that didn’t have it! They love them some paneling up there!
I saw house prices are starting to come down though…
Thanks for stopping by! I enjoyed looking over your blog!

Happy hunting!

Blue laminate countertops and wood paneling? Damn! Who could have predicted the new century would out “bad” the decor of the 70s?

Lovely Wife likes to watch that dog wisperer guy on National Geographic channel and the other day they had on an episode where he goes to a lady who only wore pink, her maltese was dyed pink, and the house was completely decorated in pink. Carpet, paint, decorations. It was truly scary.
Asking for a premium price on a house with such bad taste as pink anything in a buyers marked is crazy. I hope they wait a LONG time for that house to sell.
Sorry to be so late visiting you, thanks for stopping by my T13.
