Thursday Thirteen Neat Things I Wish Someone Would Buy Me (#9)

Posted in Geekery, Blogging & Other Blogs, Thursday Thirteen, Memes by n. mallory | .

This week’s list(posted early due to my medical stay) is stuff I’ve found that I think is really cool but I just can’t justify buying for myself (and I don’t play the lotto), but seeing as I’m single and live alone, there’s not really anyone around here but the animals to hint at that I want it other than my parents and, well, let’s just not go into the whole online-wishlist-ordering-online-fiasco thing…

Thirteen Things about N. Mallory
    1. Birding Company Maine Bay Window feederBirding Company Maine Bay Window feeder — Can you imagine what fun my cats and my dog would have with this little beauty? I just think it would be better than television.
    2. Light up knitting needlesKnit Lite Knitting Needles — Knitting needles that light up in the dark. How cool is that? I mean, I have a problem with lighting because it tends to trigger headaches with me — something that not all doctors get (it’s like my face gets flushed on the side that the light is coming from and then if I stay that way to long, a headache with develop and if I don’t treat it, a migraine, etc.). If I had these, I could keep knitting even after I’ve had to turn the lamp off maybe.
    3. iRobot 5900 Scooba Floor Washing Robotic Hard Surface CleanerScooba Robot — I don’t need one of those robotic vacuums because I have a Dyson Animal and I have stairs which would interfere, but I absolutely abhore doing the kitchen and hall tiles, even if the area is small. Plus, I’m hoping to get a house with hardwood or similar floors. This would be such a luxury. Now if they would just invent one that also cleans the bathrooms and litterboxes and takes the trash (including litter) out to the dumpster.
    4. hidden litterboxHidden Cat Litterbox — Believe it or not, that’s a disguise for a litterbox. There’s entry points on either side. It costs over $300, but it doesn’t look like a litterbox in your bathroom and you can use it to drop your mail on or display flowers or something. I’ve wanted one for a very long time. It just seems so much classier than the current system.
    5. red swingline staplerThe Red Swingline Stapler — Made famous by Office Space, I’ve given them as gifts (usually to friends who lost their jobs), but I’ve never gotten one for myself. In fact, I think you can still only buy them at ThinkGeek.com.
    6. digital picture frameDigital Picture Frame — The days of glossy photos gathering dust on top of pianos and mantels are over. Everyone’s taking pictures using digital cameras these days. I want to be able to download a bunch of family photos and pictures of places I’ve been and such and put them into a frame and set that on my piano so that every time I look over in that direction, there’s a different face or image looking back at me. Is that too much to ask? So far, all the good ones are still over $150.
    7. Full-Contour Car Seat WarmerCar Seat Warmer — I live in Maine, I grew up in the South, and Winter is coming. They say it really is going to get below freezing this year. Really, do you need more explanation? Protect my tushy!
    8. The X-Files - The Complete Seasons 1-8The Complete X-Files (Seasons 1-9) — I really don’t want to waste my time collecting each season one at a time. With my luck, if I start, they’ll suddenly be pulled from the market and I won’t be able to get them all. So I’m holding out for some nice, thoughtful soul to gift them to me all at once. (If you were wondering…the whole enchillada goes for about $400. Mmmmmmm…Mulder…
    9. 6\' Red Cedar Blue Mountain Fanback Patio Glider Rocker - Free Shipping!Patio Glider — Growing up, we had this metal patio glider on our closed-in patio in New Orleans — it had to be closed-in because of the ‘Scitos, you know. It was a great place to go to relax, read, and enjoy what little good weather New Orleans had that wasn’t sticky, especially on those days that my mother told me I had to go outside. My mother liked the glider because it was long enough to lie down on in peace and quiet and take a nap. I’ve wanted a glider ever since I moved to Maine — before that really but especially since I got all those trees to look at. I just think it would be a great place to go to relax, read, and enjoy the good weather that Maine has when it isn’t raining or snowing. You know, and maybe taking a nap or two there wouldn’t be so bad.
    10. Asl Arts Model C300 Giant Spun Top Bamboo Chime, NaturalGiant Bamboo Windchimes — Can you imagine how beautiful these will sound with the wind blowing through them as I sit reading the latest bestseller on my patio glider? ;) Seriously, I am completely entranced by windchimes. Made my own up at the stained glass art studio in the kiln right after I moved up to Maine. Have some alumninum ones too. But metal and glass just don’t make the same charming sound as bamboo. Don’t you agree?
    11. Sharper Image iSplash Wireless ZipConnect Splashproof Speaker System and 900MHz Transmitter (SR286)iSplash — O.K. How cool is this? It’s a transmitter that sends audio from your iPod MP3, stereo, TV, or whatever that has a audio jack up to 150 feet through walls and floors to an included splashproof wireless speaker. I could finally listen to the television while I get ready to go somewhere in the bathroom when there’s nothing interesting on the radio if I wanted. Or I could listen to my iPod without my headphones while I was cooking on Sunday. The options are endless.
    12. Aquatic Coffee TableAquatic Coffee Table — OMG! Ever since I first saw one of these in a catalog in the 80’s I’ve wanted one. (I believe there was even one in Sixteen Candles, if I recall correctly. Didn’t they stuff Anthony Michael Hall into it?) I would probably kill the fish somehow from overloving and I don’t know if there’s a way to keep the kitties and the puppy from “getting in”, but oh, how I would love to have one of these in my living room! It’s not tacky, is it?
    13. library-style media cabinetLibrary-style Media Cabinet — I remember when I used to actually have to go to the library to look something up if I didn’t know it. We didn’t own a set of encyclopedias and when I was growing up there wasn’t this “Internet” business. For those of you who are too young to remember libraries, when you went, you used to have to go to the card catalog and look up your subject in the big file cabinets which would generally give you a starting place to looks somewhere else in another set of cabinets until you ended up looking in the actual shelves and shelves of books. There wasn’t this bit about typing in a few words into Google or even a computer. Anyway, I remember spending hours and whole weekends at the library with great fondness, which is probably why I love this piece of furniture. What a neat way to store your CDs and DVDs.

I’d have to specify 13 politicians *spit*, Mass Media Podpeople and Adademia Nut Fruitcakes, cos my family has agreed to cremate my carcass.

My carcass would go to the oven with a grin on its face, surrounded by 13 critters the world needs fewer of…

    But, hey, that’s just me.

Super cool! I like all of those myself. I have a big red swingline at work, well it’s actually kind of maroon, but that’s ok. Every time someone borrows it I follow them and say, “Excuse me. I believe you have my stapler.” Now no one borrows it.

Lovely Wife has wanted an old school metal glider for a long time now, but I haven’t bought one yet. Check this glider out at Restoration Hardware: http://www.restorationhardware.com/rh/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod3810002&navAction=jump

Man, I would love to have a hidden cat litter box. I’d never seen one before viewing your list, so now I must begin the research trek to find one close to home. Thanks for the great idea!
