Thursday Thirteen Guys I Used To Think Were The Bees Knees (#4)

So, these are the men of my past wet dreams. They made my teen years and my twenties all dreamy like.

I like to think I’m beyond that now.

O.K. I like to think I have better taste now.

Thirteen Things about N. Mallory
  1. Simon le Bon & John TaylorSimon le Bon — 23 years ago, back when Rio and Girls on Film were hot hits. Just the sound of his voice make me melt. I was totally going to marry him when I was legal — I mean, I was what? 12? 13?
  2. John Taylor — After Simon and I got divorced, Duran Duran’s bassist was going to console me and we were totally going to get together and have beautiful babies. I even have a hat that looks just like one he wore in a lot of those posters.
  3. Corey Haim & Corey Feldman in the 80'sCorey Haim/Corey Feldman — If you were a teenager in the 80’s, I think it was a requirement that you had to crush on either Corey Haim or Corey Feldman and since they were in so many movies together, I count them as one entity. I have to say that I crushed harder on Corey Feldman than Corey Haim though, and certainly who can forget Edgar Frog from The Lost Boys? Classic.
  4. Christian SlaterChristian Slater — Didn’t everyone? I mean, he was such a bad boy. He obviously needed a good girl to tame him and ease whatever ailed him. When I think about Heathers, Mobsters, or Untamed Heart…Yum. He was the young, crazy, good-looking Jack Nicholson of my generation. Emphasis on good-looking
  5. Jeff GoldblumJeff Goldblum — O.K. Look. You can’t always help who you love. Stop looking at me like that. I have a thing for geeky-looking tall skinny guys. I can’t help it. Get over it. Seriously. And he plays all of those scientist-types. Damn it.
  6. River PhoenixRiver Phoenix — Honest to God, the day he died, a part of my heart died too. His death may have been when all of my delusions of amour regarding the famous began to melt as I began to realize there was more to the famous than what was on the screen and in magazines. Still, I love watching The Thing Called Love and pretending I’m Samantha Mathis and I’m fond of watching Sneakers and Dogfight and imagining what might have become of his talent if he hadn’t been stupid underneath that pretty face.
  7. Johnny DeppJohnny Depp — O.K. I still like Johnny. He’s all the rage now. However, I thought he was way cool way back in his “21 Jumpstreet” days as Officer Hanson. I had the poster and the bookmark, which I just threw away during my home organizational phase. Back then he looked a bit more like James Dean and was dating Winona Ryder. It’s kind of like that old country song — I liked Johnny Depp before Johnny was cool. Now people are falling all over themselves to see his movies. So there.
  8. Lou Diamond PhillipsLou Diamond Phillips — Why did the boys/men of my generation all have that frowny angsty thing going? And why did it look so friggin’ sexy? Seriously, I can’t recall him playing a goofy role, but he always, always looked good so I’m not complaining. I definitely went through a phase where I couldn’t get enough of his movies no matter how bad.
  9. Robert Downey Jr.Robert Downey Jr. — I’d probably still be crushing on this one but there’s only so many times I can take watching him screw up his life with the drugs, you know? He’s got a lot of talent, not just a cute face and a charming smile. It was easy to see from the beginning, but I became disenchanted with him about the time he lost his Ally McBeal job. Heh, even one of my old college friends was calling me up telling me “my boy was in trouble again.” So embarrassing. *sigh*
  10. Keanu ReevesKeanu Reeves — I’ve been putting off admitting it, but I guess I’m going to have to. Yes, it’s true. I used to think Keanu was hot back in the Bill & Ted and Point Break days. I attribute it to him being somewhat tall and lanky-looking and I blame that song by Julie Brown — “I Like ‘Em Big And Stupid.” O.K. I guess the F.B.I. agent thing was sexy. I don’t know what else I might have been thinking. I got over him kind of fast when I realized that his brain was closer to Ted’s.
  11. Val Kilmer as Madmartigan in WillowVal Kilmer — How could you not have been in love with Madmartigan? He might have been a little flighty for a rogue hero, but that long dark hair, those eyes, those muscles… O.K. Really, Val Kilmer really was one of the sexiest men to watch from about Top Secret! to The Saint which is a pretty long run — 15 years! Who can forget Iceman in Top Gun or Chris Knight in Real Genius? And, of course, Bruce Wayne in Batman Forever? Mmmmm….muscular-y.
  12. Tim Curry in Rocky HorrorTim Curry — *sigh* I really really want to say that it’s his voice that really turned me on, but I have to confess that there was just something about the fishnet stockings and the leather…something wicked naughty taboo. Honestly though there is something about the older bad boy that is Tim Curry that held my interest for some part of my twenties that I can’t deny. Hey, I even liked his baddie character in “Earth 2” and wanted to help rehabilitate his naughty self. Maybe it’s the Janet in me.
  13. David Hasselhoff as Michael KnightDavid Hasselhoff — Yes, I saved the most embarrassing for last, but I dare you women to deny that back in his “Knight Rider” days you thought he was hot too! C’mon, I know it’s true! Way back when before there was “Baywatch” there was Michael and that really cool car and you thought that was sexy too. Admit it. I’m not alone. There’s a reason the series lasted from 1982 through 1986 and there were all of those posters made of him in speedos.

Ah, Christian, Johnny, Keanu, Val…. They made me swoon once, and some of them still can. I too was gaga over Johnny Depp back in the 21 Jumpstreet days. My parents wouldn’t let me watch that show, but I’d turn it on if they were out just for a glimpse of dreamy Johnny.

Cool list, though as a guy, it’s a little harder to relate. I always thought Simon LeBon was cool. I really like that those guys still make music too. Shows that they were more than just pretty faces that they still perform. In fact the wedding album in the mid 90’s is one of my all time favorites. Save a Prayer is one of the best songs EVER.

My wife and I went to see Hall and Oates perform in the mid 80’s (Big Bam Boom Tour) and all the young guys there were dressed just like Simon, hair, jacket, the works. It was a hoot.

I was born in ‘81, so some of these guys I don’t know, but I must agree on Johnny Depp & Jeff Goldlum. I don’t know what it is about quirky guys, but I like ‘em too. :o)

My T13 is up too if you care to have a look.

Jeff Goldblum was HOT in The Fly - while he was still human. And Val Kilmer shirtless in Top Gun - waaaay hotter than Cruise.

Ah, Save a Prayer still sends chills through me when I hear it. Soooooo…eeerrrie. And the video was shot in Sri Lanka. For years, I wanted to move to Sri Lanka because of the music video. That was back in the day when Mtv actually showed music videos all day long and the music videos were like pieces of art. *sigh*

I think those guys were just staples of the times. Johnny Depp, however, has been lucky to persevere through the years.

Terrific list, and happy Thursday to you! Feel free to visit mine as well if you get the chance!

I also was a Johnny fan during the 21 Jump Street days, before it was cool! Never missed that show.

Kilmer and Slater were hotties too…..the 80’s were good years!

    Happy Thursday!

Oh, these guys are all yummy! You must be younger than me though. It was always David Cassidy for me (yes, THAT David Cassidy!) In fact, if you visit my blog often, you know I’m still obsessed with him. I always liked the guys with long dark hair and pretty eyes. My high school boyfriend was blonde, but other than that it’s always been the dark guys for me! Loved reading about your knee bucklers! I like Johnny Depp too!

Since this is obviously a chick list thing I won’t say anything. I’ll simply ridicule you for liking David Hasselhunk!” What are you German? Tim Curry I can understand. Who doesn’t like a man in black fishnets and a teddy. But Jeff Goldblum? Lou Diamond Creme Puff? Haim AND Feldman? Sheesh. But what do I know about guy attraction.
Anyway thanks for stopping by My T13 Daydream Edition! And thanks for not ridiculing my hottie list of Angelina Jolie, Jeri Ryan and Condi Rice.

Pretty cute idea for a T13. I wonder how far River Pheonix would have gone in his career! The rest all were good in their day and some still turn a head or two! Thanks for stopping in today. Have a great evening!

Well, I was a teen in the 80’s, but obviously older teen than you - I graduated in 84, and our heartthrobs were just as cute and just as embarrasing…
John Schnieder, Eric Estrada (Oh, man, he was HOT!), Sean Cassidy… you get the idea. I even had a crush on Barry Manilow at one point. wow, I think I hurt my confessional bone or something….

Eric Estrada was so totally hot! We watched CHIPs every week. And I was a Dukes of Hazard girl myself.

Motorcycles and fast cars…I’m starting to see a pattern…

As for Dane’s Condi fetish….well, I tried to ignore that because you can’t burn out your mind’s eye. I mean, I can understand Angie and Jeri. They’re kind of hot, but Condi? That kind of gives me the willies. :P

I was going to marry River Phoenix and I still remember where I was the moment I found out from my mother that he was dead. That was the instant I stopped believing in fairy tales, truth, love, and all that is good in this world, and became the bitter old cat-lady-in-training that I am.

Great list :) Wish I had found it Thursday but this has been a busy week for me. I was a Corey Feldman girl myself, still love Johnny Depp, never got the whole Keanu Reeves thing (the man CAN NOT ACT), and always preferred John Taylor to any of the other Taylors in Duran Duran or even Simon himself. I wrote a story once where I was his cat …

I loved the Coreys too…and Christian Slater…and River Phoenix, though I think it was just his name.

Johnny Depp will always be my fave though–he just has “that look” and age isn’t affecting it too badly :-)

I’m mad you didn’t comment on my TT :-P
