Things I Lost On My UK Trip
- My Brookstone NAP Travel Pillow which was square. It’s not even on their website anymore. I had to buy one of the neck ones to replace it.
- My palm stylus.
- My brand new earphones I bought for the trip after Pugly chewed up the last ones.
- My umbrella, which I replaced with a mini-umbrella of the UK flag.
- Two pounds — kid you not.

Wow, I lost a few pounds on my vacation over the fourth, too.
The rest, well at least it was all small, relatively cheap stuff. Traveling is a black hole in many regards.

I actually miss the food in the UK. Even the selections in the convenience stores were healthier.
Now, mind you, I don’t eat sausage or pork, but I did try to eat something different that I hadn’t tried before at each meal, and specifically something I couldn’t get over here. So, there were a couple of fattening foods, but often I had vegetarian choices even if they were on bread.
I was feeling rather queasy just looking at our food when I went to try to find lunch yesterday after returning to work.

Heh, you don’t often hear people say they miss UK food! But it sounds like there were fun things to try.
Food is a chore for me lately. I think it’s the heat. I’d rather not be bothered, but then I get hungry, and it’s such a drag!

You know, I think the UK is making a real effort to be more health-conscious these days from what I could tell from watching the news; moreso than when my parents were there 15 years ago. I know they talked about how awful the food was when they went but I really didn’t find that the case, but then I also had PW to kind of warn me of scary things and when things had sausage or pork or other questionable things.
What I found odd was that when you ordered something decidedly of a Mexican/TexMex/Spanish flavor, it almost always came out with Mozarella instead of Cheddar however.
Cheese is very big over there apparently. It’s on a lot of sandwhiches and appetizers.
I also found it strange that there was so much American fast food (KFC, McDs, BK, Subway, Pizza Hut, etc.) over there — and that PW made me go to KFC once (and I won’t eat there here!) and I had a chicken breast smaller than a chicken thigh!
Also, it was very difficult convincing the locals that I wanted to go to local-type places rather than American-chain restaurants like TGI Fridays — which we did once as well with “the families,” which is a future post.
