Spending Time With PW

Posted in My Life, Friends & Family, Vacation, UK 2006 by n. mallory | .

Well, I can hardly believe that in two weeks this time, I’ll be in England and on a tour, possibly viewing Stonehenge from behind some gated fence.  I’m really started to get excited!

What’s really nifty is that PW is going to be doing all the tours and travelling with me from Monday through Thursday that week, including my overnight stay in Bath and the bus trip down to Glastonbury Abbey!  So, I’ll actually get to spend some time with her while I’m there and she’ll actually get to do some touristy things that English doesn’t want to do because, well, he lives there and he’s done all that.

So, now I’m trying to hurry and make all kinds of reservations — yes, I waited to the last minute.  I’ve got book my three day tours and my hotel in Bath.  I’m just waiting to hear back from both tour agencies on questions.  I booked a hotel in Edinburgh, which I’m iffy about but it’s done and it has a complimentary Scottish breakfast.
I haven’t even started looking at what I want to see in London the second week.  Oy.

The Hilton Caledonian in Edinburgh is the place to be.

If you get a chance you have to tour the Edinburgh Castle. They have the Scottish Crown jewels there and if you catch it right you can get a tour of them. Stop in the pub kitty corner to the Caledonian and get a plate of bangers and mash, you will enjoy it.

It is only an hour or so train ride to St. Andrews from there and there are many things to see and places to shop.

    You should enjoy it.

London has all the standard things you need to see (Westminster Abby, The Tower of London, etc).

While I’m in Edinburgh, I’m doing some tour plan where I can basically take all the tours and buses for a flat rate in the city at my leisure for two days. The Castle is on the top of my list. I don’t know if I’ll get outside of the city though. I’m going to have to make plans for a second trip I guess because there’s a whole lot of places I’m not going to get to see like Rosslyn, Loch Ness, Mary Queen of Scots house, and Dunfermline Abbey & Palace.

Of course, if I don’t go to Rosslyn this trip, I may not get to; because of that book, they’re talking about closing it to visitors due to having too many treasure seekers.
