Karma And The Drama Queen

Posted in My Life by n. mallory | .

Remeber a couple of weeks ago when I was having trouble with FW (Mr. Drama Queen himself) totally being all pissy and abusively talking down to me like I couldn’t do my job?  He’d calmed down since then; I assume because the nice bossman chatted with him and told him to curb his Diva’tude.  I mean, he’s still a Drama Queen, but at least he wasn’t acting like he was Elton John and I was Vanilla Ice or something anymore.

So anyway, one of the things I completely stopped doing was backing him or anyone up on the pager.  You know, like if the pager would go off three or four times like someone hadn’t answered it and should have, I would sometimes go ahead and take the call since I get all of the pages to my personal pager as well.  However, he was really nasty to me a couple of times when I was trying to be helpful while he was in a meeting.  So, I’ve stopped being helpful, which was really, really hard for me.  Apparently, being helpful isn’t appreciated here.

Well, this is his week on call and last night, the pager went off a couple of times but it was definitely not for me personally.  It was definitely an on-call issue, so I ignored it.

Then this morning, when I had barely walked in and was headed down to the kitchen to find sugar for my coffee, one of the clinical staff approached me and told me they were having a problem with the lab interface.  I asked if FW wasn’t here because I thought I saw his jacket.  He told me that FW had told him that I was on-call.  I told him that was news to me as I had been on-call the week before (for another one of the team) and am on-call again starting Thursday.  That’s also what the co-worker thought since that’s what the schedule says.

Well, I helped the guy out, but when I saw FW, I asked him if he didn’t know he was on-call.  Well, he was just flabberghasted and had to check two different copies of the schedule to prove it.  He also had to appologize to me and even when I tried to let him off nicely, he seriously said that there was no excuse for his not knowing he was on-call.

So, no one answered the pages last night.  I wonder what the issue was.  If it had been me, I would have had to explain myself to my boss.

Anyway, I’m glad it happened to the Drama Queen himself and I hope it reminds him that even he’s not perfect all of the time.  Eventually Karma gets us all.
