Puppy Or No Puppy?
O.K. I’m actually very excited about this idea. It’s kind of a plan and I think it has pros and cons.
So, I got to thinking today about goal setting and rewards. What would be a good reward, for example, to encourage me to clean my house? It would have to be something I couldn’t just go get even if I didn’t clean my house. I mean, that clean house thing would have to be hanging over it. It would seriously have to motivate me to get off my ass and just do it.
I was sitting at my desk looking at the adorable birthday card my mother sent me — a pug dog is sitting in the middle of a pizza box with all these crusts scattered around and he’s licking his lips. Then it occurred to me that one of the things I really, really want is a puppy, a pug to be specific. I’ve always said that I wouldn’t have one until I had a house which is about a year away, but hear me out…
O.K. So, I couldn’t have a puppy until I puppy-proofed my house, which means cleaning it, which means getting off my ass and doing it, and then keeping it that way once the puppy is there.
Then, because there’s no yard for the puppy to play in, I’d have to walk the puppy, which is good exercise for me; I wouldn’t be allowed to just sit in my chair all day; I would have to get up and outside.
Plus, I still don’t think that apartments are good for dogs, so I would really have to focus on saving for a house, so that would help me focus on saving money for the house too.
O.K. There are cons. Dogs should have yards to run and play in and there is no fenced yard in my apartment complex and not a place for one of those invisible yards like my parents have.
I’m leaving for 2 weeks in June, but I’m sure that KH would puppy-sit.
Puppy-training. I remember that this is not a fun thing.
Walking the dog in Winter in Maine can’t be fun for human or dog.
Anyway, I talked to the apartment complex and the gal told me that she’d let me have another pet above the pet limit. I’m special, you know, because I’m a good tenant — quiet, keep to myself, and always pay on time. So, that’s not holding me back. I so want a pug. I hope the cats get along with him.
