The rumblings of a disgruntled America are starting…

The City and County of San Francisco became the first large municipality to call for the impeachment of George Bush and Dick Cheney, by a 7-3 vote.

Sup. Daly again called attention to the strongest argument for impeachment, Bush lying to the American people about the reason for preemptively attacking Iraq based on forged documents regarding Saddam Hussein’s “alleged” intent to purchase yellowcake from Niger: “Bush knowingly included false and misleading evidence in his January 2003 State of the Union Address stating Iraq was seeking to purchase uranium from Niger to build nuclear weapons.” Sup. Daly also pointed to the Bush administration’s failure to respond to the imminent disaster posed by Hurricane Katrina and asked the other supervisors to imagine if something like that happened in San Francisco where “primarily African-American people, some of whom were sick, elderly, disabled [were] left there basically for five days to die.”

As he stated last week, Sup. Daly also returned to the argument regarding the treatment of prisoners at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo: “If you look at the scandals of the sanctioned torture at the Abu Ghraib prison facility and at Guantanamo Bay, [it is a] clear violation of the Geneva Convention in terms of treatment of prisoners.” [“Resolution to Impeach Bush-Cheney Passes 7-3″ (BeyondChron: San Francisco’s Alternative Online Daily News)]

Voters gathered in the town hall to vote on an impeachment article. The article, approved 121-29 in balloting by paper, calls on Vermont’s lone member of the House, independent Rep. Bernie Sanders, to file articles of impeachment against the president, alleging that Bush misled the nation into the Iraq war and engaged in illegal domestic spying. I like this idea. I think I will start my own resolution. To abolish the tax code and to get rid of all social programs. Then cities like San Fran and the little state of Vermont can pay their own way.

Of course you realize that the resolution has no legs. The one from the City by the Gay is replete with lies. And, they can not impeach for the response to Katrina even if he did not do a thing. Not obligated and not an impeachable offense. Has to be high crimes and misdemeanors. None of it fits.

“the Gay”? Oy. I would actually like to read their actual document. However, I do believe that this is actually how it begins. These are the first steps. It doesn’t always begin in the Federal Congress. It just has to end up there.
