Arizona’s Battle of the Sexes
Jill @ Feministe pointed me to an article at azstarstarnet.com about a ridiculous battle of the sexes, reproductively speaking.
Apparently, last Monday the Arizona House of Representatives voted to make it illegal for a woman to sell her eggs, but they refused to impose similar restrictions on men selling their sperm.
Talk about your sexism and inequality of the sexes!
The bill would result in a woman who sells her eggs going to prison for up to a year and fined up to $150,000 and the same penalty would apply to any organization or doctor who made the purchase.
Supposedly this is all to protect the “health of the woman,” but donating eggs is not illegal.
“I don’t understand why a man could go out and sell part of his reproductive body … that a man can go and make money, but I as a woman cannot do it,” complained Rep. Linda Lopez, D-Tucson, about the measure criminalizing the sale of human eggs.[“House bars human egg sales, stirs women’s ire”(azstarnet.com)]
Why are men so obsessed with the uteruses of the women around them?
