Quote of the Day: On Imaginary Vs. Real Evils

Since I’m going through one of those weird phases of wanting to belong and get involved locally, I looked around for a Maine Bloggers webring. All of the webrings I found included businesses and the like, but what I was really looking for was some sort of webring that focused on local bloggers — you know, a way for us prolific loners to connect and who knows, maybe become friendly.
Anyway, since I couldn’t find one that met my needs, I created one. Big step for me. I mean, it’s kind of like organizing a meet and greet and hoping strangers will show up.
Here’s the webring code and how it looks:
Hopefully, I’ll see some fellow Mainers joining up so I won’t be all lonesome.

Accept certain inalienable truths.
Prices will rise, Politicians will philander, you too will get old.
And when you do, you’ll fantasize that when you were young,
prices were reasonable, politicians were noble, and children respected their elders.[…]
Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it.
Advice is a form of nostalgia; dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts, and recycling it for more than its worth.

I’ve been so impressed with my Keen Newport H2’s that I decided I had to get some more Keens for Winter-wear now that it’s cooling off. I finally settled on the Keen Vienna in walnut and the Keen Sydney II in brown, which is the one that looks like a Mary Jane — though I was mighty tempted to get the funky rust-colored ones.
Doing a little research, I found a deal using dealcatcher.com for shoes.com:

Saw the GP yesterday morning because I’vd had this nasty persistant cough now for a month.
Found out that no one’s happy with my Pulmonary Function tests from last week and that it indicates that my lung capacity is down or something, which is what I’ve been trying to tell them. I mean, I think telling them that I’m out of breath just walking up the stairs in my house or down the block is pretty much the same thing.
Anyway, they can’t really proceed with any good testing until they they can do some x-rays with contrasts apparently, which they can’t

Well, here’s proof that Pugly made it to Niagra Falls. He was very popular while we were there. All of the children wanted to pet him and we were stopped many times by paparazzi wanting to take pictures of “the cutest Pug ever” — their words not mine, I swear.

I saw this the other day and couldn’t help but think that this cartoon represents the quintessential problem with world today, particularly with Americans. No one is listening to each other. I really want to say that hard-core rightwingers are the worst perpetrators, but really it’s the hard-core anyones — rightwingers just happen to be the most visible right at the moment in the U.S.

Well, Pugly and I made it home all in one piece. My parents are at my house and my aunt and her husband are back to their lives. I’d say everything went well.
Pugly was a very good boy at Auntie J’s. He had two oopsies but both were easily handled. He even got along well weith Auntie J’s parot. In fact, the parot and Pugly didn’t seem interested in each other at all, much to the disappointment of everyone — I think the lack of feathers and fur flying was something of a let down all around.
Pugly was a bit

O.K. So, Pugly and I are hopefully leaving this afternoon/evening via U.S. Airways for Ohio to go meet up with my parents and see my Aunt and gramma. I say hopefully because the carrier I ordered from online that fit the U.S. Airways measurments was too small for Pugly. Seriously, there was no way he was going in it. Since there had been all kinds of problems getting it and it finally arrived on Monday…I had to buy another rather expensive one on Tuesday in desperation. This one does not meet the measurements.
I am prepared to start crying in the

In keeping with my generally depressed and pissy mood, even though I’m kind of happy to be leaving to go out of town today, even though flying and travelling completely freak and stress me out, I’ve decided to go with pet peeves for this week’s Thursday Thirteen. In particular, I’m focusing on pet peeves involving people since it’s people who’ve been irritating and hurting me this week.
I think this will be a good, healthy outlet for the pain.
No. Really.
