Why It’s Horrible Being So Far From My Mommy

Posted in My Life, Friends & Family, Wellness by n. mallory

I have to go in for an Upper Endo when I come back from vacation.  I’m scheduled for that Friday afternoon as soon as I come back.  Just thinking about it makes me want to gag.

Anyway, apparently, I can’t just go and have the procedure and go home.  They apparently drug you up good and they require you to not drive afterward and insist that you leave with a responsible person.  They wouldn’t let me take a taxi home either.

I had to go wandering around trying to find a co-worker who could drive me home after the procedure.

It’s not

Review: Keen Venice H2 Sandals — Day 1

Posted in My Life, Wellness, Fibromyalgia by n. mallory

Well, this is really a mini-review. I mean, you can’t really review shoes until you’ve really had a chance to test them out under some sort of stress test. For these shoes, that’ll be my upcoming vacation, but I thought I’d at least answer Tamara’s request as to how the breaking-in first day went. ;)

Women\'s Keen Venice H2So, I wore them all day, which is a record for me because I usually take my shoes off the absolute second I walk in the front door

These Shoes Were Made For Walking

Posted in My Life, Wellness, Vacation, Fibromyalgia by n. mallory

Well, I’ve had some serious issues with pain lately. I’ve not been shy about it. I’ve talked alot about my legs. My feet hurt alot too.

When I was younger, I used to work for Winn Dixie and then later for Robért’s Fresh Market as a cashier and customer service rep. I also worked in a video store and at a movie theater at various times in my life. Anyway, the point is that in those service industries, I spent long, miserable hours standing on my feet and they hated me for it. My feet

Getting From Here To There: What’s In Your Flight Kit?

Coincidentally peskyapostrophe is planning an international vacation of her own this year and she happened to post today about what she takes with her on the airplane. She had some things on her list I hadn’t thought about taking with me.

The idea of a flight kit is to put in not just what you are going to need like any medicines you might need to take during the journey but also what things you are going to need to keep you sane on the journey.  For example, I can’t make it through a flight without music and

Discombobulated Thoughts - 06/19/06

Posted in My Life, Discombobulated by n. mallory
  • Even though I asked for my mail to be temporarily stopped beginning June 23rd, it was stopped June 16th. This wouldn’t really have been too annoying if all of my Netflix had arrived for the weekend before then.  I really wanted to watch Memoirs of a Geisha too.
  • I had finally found a set of headphones I really liked and let the personal organizer haul off every other pair I owned. The puppy has eaten the plastic cushion piece of the left ear piece. I really need to figure out a better place to put my purse so

Signs That You Too May Be…

Posted in Some Fun Now, Geekery, Blogging & Other Blogs by n. mallory

Found this at 50Books.com:

20 Signs That You Too May Be Old

  1. You use the phrase “nice young woman” to describe someone in her twenties.
  2. You find yourself complaining about loud motorcycles A LOT.
  3. You have approached a group of teenagers talking loudly in front of your house and asked them to please keep it down, and you didn’t care if they thought you were “cool” or not.
  4. You lose a bit of weight and you’re annoyed that you have to buy new pants.
  5. You see someone get carded at the liquor store and realize you can’t remember the last time it happened to

Writing A Program To Stop The Cruciatus Curse

Posted in My Life, Wellness, Fibromyalgia by n. mallory

I had a horrible night last night. Not only was my insomnia acting up really awful but my mind was racing all night about some sort of check boxes, turning them on and off in some sort of program and this had to do with the pain in my body but I couldn’t get it right and the whole night my body was in excruciating pain — I now imagine this is what the Cruciatus Curse in Harry Potter must feel like. All I kept thinking as the night went on is that there had to be a

Annoying Aer Lingus Website Flaw

Posted in Geekery by n. mallory

I cannot for the life of me figure out where I can go on Aer Lingus‘ website and enter my booking reference and see my reservation information.  I also can’t enter my flight information and see anything about my flights because they are too far in the future.  I tried signing up for membership on the website but there’s no way to add previous reservations to your membership account.  Not particularly user-friendly once they’ve got your money.
And of course, website tech support is a long distance call to I’m assuming Ireland.

Excuse me while I go beat my head

This cartoon is funny but more in a gut-wrenching “how true” kind of a way than a “Family-Circus-Look-What-Billy-Did-This-Week” kind of way.

What The Doctor Said

Well, today was the big visit with the doctor. In preparation, I emailed her a few days ago with a list of things that I absolutely needed to talk to her about and why and the two most important issues were the acid reflux and the muscular pain in my legs and elsewhere.

O.K. So I’ve got a new temp prescription for Prevacid but I have to go on Tuesday for bloodwork and when I come back I’ve got to have some tests for ulcers and for my gall bladder. I’m very tender to touch where my gall bladder

Recommended Reading - In The News Edition

Here are a few posts written elsewhere that I thought worth passing on:

  • Cat and Mouse with the VA (Score One for the Cat) — Dark Wraith is one of those Veterans who received a letter from the Veterans Administration about last month’s Fubar with the laptop and all of that personal data that might or might not have gotten hijacked. He’s not just upset about the Fubar; he’s upset that that they were able to find him at all after he spent ages carefully not alerting them to address changes…

This is Exhibit Number One of what happens when the government turns into a nosy weirdo: its minions collect all kinds of personal data for whatever compelling reason they’ve concocted to make their jobs have meaning, and once they’ve got all that data, they place everyone in the database at risk, both from their own nefarious people and from those who would be able to compromise whatever security they have on the data. They take what isn’t theirs—our privacy—and they can’t have the decency to ensure even that they’re the only ones who can mess up our lives with what they’ve expropriated.

To the Veterans Administration—and knowing full well that my rage will do no good whatsoever—I say this: Stay the Hell out of my life.

To everyone else, I say this: if you’re not afraid of this government, you should be; and if you are afraid of this government, you should be more so.

Not that it will do you any good to be afraid. As far as I can tell, they’ll find you when they want to, anyway. It’s all part of the price we now pay for the security our government provides as it diligently dismisses any regard whatsoever for the right we thought we had to be left alone.

Quote of the Day: On The Iraq War

“I can’t help but feel through eyes of a combat-wounded Marine in Vietnam, if someone was shot, you tried to save his life. . . . While you were in combat, you had a sense of urgency to end the slaughter, and around here we don’t have that sense of urgency…To me, the administration does not act like there’s a war going on. The Congress certainly doesn’t act like there’s a war going on. If you’re raising money to keep the majority, if you’re thinking about gay marriage, if you’re doing all this other peripheral stuff, what does that say
