Every day we here in America are bombarded with the news that more Iraqis and Americans have been killed. Usually we’re just given a number, a total dead for the day.
37. 12. 53.
If one of the American soldiers happened to be local, in a few days, we might hear his or her name on the radio and television as well as the unit he or she served in.
But over here, we never hear the names of the Iraqis.
I kind of get the feeling that for the most part, Americans don’t really get that the Iraqis are actual

Over the weekend my mom and I got on the subject of politics. That doesn’t really happen often. Usually if I’m going to chat politics with anyone it’s my dad. It’s not that I don’t think my mom knows anything about politics, it’s just that I think she tends to be more of a follower and less of a thinker. She’s definitely a liberal but she’s more of a follow-the-leader liberal though she doesn’t know it. She scoffed at my grandmother’s follow-the-leader Republicanism but she does tend to say “Well your father thinks…” more than

Remember after Hurricane Katrina when the rescue teams were trying to get people to leave their homes where their was no electricity or water and it was actually dangerous for people to stay due to toxins in the air and flooding water and decaying wildlife? One of the problems that rescue teams had was that people refused to abandon their pets, something many people across the nation completely understood, because for many of us a pet is another family member, for some of us like me pets are our children. No one would have expected those people to abandon their

Homeland Stupidity has been expanding since, well, the real Homeland stupidity has been growing. The blog has added two new writers to it’s mix; Mark Jaquith’s first post is up today and he admits that he voted for the Republicans “as the lesser of the two evils” much the same way, I suppose, that I tend to vote for the Democrats.
What I appreciatied about his article is that he has the actual intelligence to point out that there is in fact a difference between what the Republicans claim to be (on paper)

Remember that was one of the slogans from The X-Files? “Trust no one.”
Apparently, it’s one of my “Core Beliefs”. My Cognative Thinking Therapy Group is over now and the last two weeks was about “Core Beliefs”. My understanding is that these are the inner beliefs that we have that shape our lives and how we deal with ourselves, others, and the world. In fact, that is how they are broken down — beliefs about ourselves, beliefs about others, and beliefs about the world.

This is getting kind of frustrating. I really thought there’d be a lot more advice on the net about packing for trips to England and what to take and what not to take. Maybe I’m just not using the right search strings. So far this looks like the only semi-good site:
Some ideas on how to pack for your European Vacation
Basically, I’ve figured out that I need to go get a new raincoat (mine’s too small), some more shorts (same issue), some luggage tags (Delta ate the ones I had), and some sort of plug for my laptop. I’ve

Peter: “Forget them, Wendy. Forget them all. Come with me where you’ll never, never have to worry about grown up things again.”
Wendy: “Never is an awfully long time.”
I’ve had a subscription to Netflix since August of 2004 and practically since I’ve been a member, I’ve been trying to get a copy of the 2003 version of Peter Pan to view ever since. It’s been out of stock or something up until last week. Anyway, it was well worth the wait.
Once again I

Over the weekend I went to a singles dinner. Yup. Faced a major social anxiety. Got myself gussied up, drove 2 hours to South of Boston to meet total utter strangers.
And it was fun and not scary at all and I enjoyed myself and stayed 3 hours longer than I had planned and I totally plan to do it again.
And no I didn’t hook up with anyone and that wasn’t the goal. I really just wanted to meet some new people (but there were a couple of cute guys). I will say that the ratio of women to men was

So, really there ought to be a book or something out there that kind of gives little helpful hints to people like me on what to do — well, for everything. There seems to be a lot of little things I don’t know how to do that most people seem to maybe have picked up somewhere else along the way.
For example, did you know that when using a drill to screw a screw into a wall, you first need to use a bit to drill a hole smaller than the screw where you want the screw to be? I did
