HBO Edits Dodgeball Sexy Scenes?

Posted in Books, Music, Movies, & T.V., Geekery by n. mallory | .

I had Dodgeball on yesterday to keep me company while I did other things. I noticed that a number of scenes were missing from the version that aired on my HBOW channel — the scene where the geeky guy and the Russian lady “get together” was completely gone and the scene where the two girls make out with Peter was sliced so that it looked like he only made out with the one girl.

I must admit I was a little surprised that HBO was editing sexy scenes from the movie considering some of the racy and often disturbing stuff they produce and air themselves.

I wonder if I’m the only one who noticed this and I wonder if HBO has a reason. I mean, Dodgeball seems pretty harmless compared to other movies.

That’s bizarre. I’m pretty sure both of those scenes are in my DVD, which isn’t even the “Unrated” DVD version floating around out there. I find it hard to believe HBO would edit for content, but you saw it with your own eyes. Annoying!

Love that movie, btw. And I can’t find our DVD now — I thought I lent it to my sister but she has her own. Who did I give it to? I want to watch it now!

You know…and I remember noticing it before this weekend. There’s the scene were the boy is flashing back to trying out for cheerleading and they’ve snipped the part where the girl tells him she’s not wearing underwear. I have no idea why.

    I’ve written them an e-mail.

The irony is that if those scenes hadn’t originally been in the movie, I wouldn’t care because that particular raunchy humor isn’t funny to me, but I’m just curious why those scenes were removed. At the very least the last scene with the two girls making out with Peter actually makes more since than the sliced scene.

I really like the sports commentators best; the ditzy one cracks me up with his statements of the obvious.

The commentators are my favorite part too! I still contend that Jason Bateman (ditzy one) steals the entire movie. And the role proves what a great actor he is, because it’s soooo different than his other roles, and yet totally believable.

Let me know what HBO replies!
