“We Need To Talk”
Why do people always wait until you’re feeling really sick to tell you what they think is wrong with you? I don’t mean, they think it might be the flu; I mean, they want to amateur shrink you — generally because they’ve taken something you said the absolute wrong way — generally because they can’t tell you were joking even with the
and
and
that you over populate your emails and IMs with — generally because one time you made the same joke to two separate people and forgot the
both time and it wasn’t even a joke making fun of anyone but yourself.
I even hate when they start with “We need to talk” and “You know I’m just doing this as your friend so keep that in mind.” Why do we need to talk? Is this really a friendship-kind of thing? I’d really much rather talk about Firefly or politics or even my parents and have my real friends love me despite my flaws without pointing them out. You know, that’s why I have a blog — so I don’t go to my friends and say “We need to talk.” There’s nothing I’m going to say to them that is going to make things better that starts with “We need to talk.” This lesson I have learned well over the years. Most things that start with “We need to talk” have to do with breaking up or changing the other person and quite frankly pointing out a person’s flaws uninvited just makes the person want to change less.
