Writing: Character Creation

Posted in Writing by n. mallory | .

Through a thread on NaNoWriMo’s forums, I found some nifty websites for character creation and design and thought I’d share.

Fiction Writer’s Character Chart — This is a PDF file that someone was nice enough to upload and share. The original html version is here. I really like this one a lot and am going to try it out this weekend.

The Scriptorium has a whole toolbox of writing but here’s a brief sketch worksheet and here’s a more detailed “biography” worksheet.

This one was created for the purpose of designing characters for roleplaying games, but really how different is character design between the two, other than many RPGs require some sort of weirdness for defining attributes like Intelligence and Strength and defining skills? Anyway, it’s 100 questions to answer regarding your character.

WritingClasses.com has a couple of character questionnaires here.

And here’s one more for good measure.

I don’t know if you’d find it useful, but I’ve put together a pdf ebook of character questions on burningvoid.com. It’s entirely free for download–no tricks or fine print. I have a great fondness for exercises, character questions, and the like. I’ll have to check out the ones you link to here; thank you for compiling them.
