It Never Hurts To Jokingly Ask
Well, I talked to the guy from the insurance company of the lady who hit me in July. He was calling to find out if the car dealership called me yet. If you remember, the lady who rear-ended me was driving a van/SUV she had on loan from a car dealership.
Anyway, I told him that I hadn’t heard from them but that my insurance company handles all of that. I just deal with my insurance company regarding the damage and injury stuff.
I had been hoping he was calling about the pain and suffering, but he didn’t mention it and I should have. Anyway, he told me that the car dealership was supposed to handle the claim. This tells me that the claim hasn’t been settled yet, though I have my money — love my insurance company.
I called my insurance company to tell them about the call from her insurance company and while I was discussing with my injury claims manager about how I’m not doing physical therapy or anything, I jokingly said that what would help me most was if they’d send over a maid.
Well, it turns out that when I increased my coverage last year when I had no health insurance and wanted to be covered in case I was in a car accident driving to Maine, one of the nifty things I got in my new coverage is that if I’m injured and unable to do stuff around the house, they can provide $45/week for me to hire someone to do little things like bring in my groceries or help clean up.
I’m sure you think I’d jump on it…but I’m going to mull it over. It would be nice to have someone do the vacuuming, mopping, and bathroom cleaning at least and I suppose it wouldn’t have to be every week.
Anyway, I’m annoyed that the guy didn’t bring up the pain and suffering. I do want my money from the art class I had to drop back — though my mom thinks I should ask for more, which is odd since she seemed to be against that earlier. I’m now debating hiring a lawyer like Meg and Peter suggested. I’m really not sure which of those insurance companies is supposed to pay for that — I know mine won’t handle that part of my case.

Wow, that’s great news about the money for help around the house. I say go for it, at least occasionally!
