Saddam’s Capture Fabricated?

According to the story below, the capture of Saddam Hussein, which America and the World witnessed on video tape and broadcast across all our t.v. sets, was a fabrication of a production team after the real capture, which occurred the day before. Here’s my question: If what Ex-Sgt. Rebeh is telling the truth, why the lie? His version sounds much more heroic for our side than the version we saw, which was anti-climatic in my personal opinion.

Ex-Sgt. Nadim Abou Rabeh, of Lebanese descent, was quoted in the Saudi daily al-Medina Wednesday as saying Saddam was actually captured Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, and not the day after, as announced by the U.S. Army.

“I was among the 20-man unit, including eight of Arab descent, who searched for Saddam for three days in the area of Dour near Tikrit, and we found him in a modest home in a small village and not in a hole as announced,” Abou Rabeh said.

“We captured him after fierce resistance during which a Marine of Sudanese origin was killed,” he said.

He said Saddam himself fired at them with a gun from the window of a room on the second floor. Then they shouted at him in Arabic: “You have to surrender. … There is no point in resisting.”

“Later on, a military production team fabricated the film of Saddam’s capture in a hole, which was in fact a deserted well,” Abou Rabeh said.

Abou Rabeh was interviewed in Lebanon. [“Ex-Marine Says Public Version of Saddam Capture Fiction” (13 WHAM - Rochester, NY)]

Believe it or not, as much as I love good conspiracy stories, I just don’t understand the motive of why Saddam’s capture would be fabricated or why this Rabeh would lie. One of them has to be incorrect, but which and why?

Maybe he could give us the names of the other 19 guys and we could ask them what happened.

Well, the 18 other guys since one died…Yeah, I’d like to hear what they have to say too.

I wonder if this will be in my next issue of Paranoia Magazine. ;)

I could at least one reason why Saddam’s capture would be staged. The fact that a Saddam resisting capture plays him more of a heroic figure to Sunnis. Particularly those in the insurgency. Remember that during this time it was believed, and falsely at that, that capturing Saddam Hussein would bring the insurgency to its knees. Witnessing their hero, the hero that they were perceived to be fighting for, being dragged out of a whole and slammed to the sand by some American soldier is a hell of lot more demoralizing that knowing that Saddam, in all its futility, picked up a pistol and attempted to resist 20 men armed with assualt rifles.

well i wouldn’t be surprised - although i’m totally not into the whole “conspiracy theory” crap.

i always thought it was weird to have those “leaked” photos of the capture… you know the ones that were all over fox news the next day. it’s just seemed to convient.

plus it would be better to show in a hole. it makes him look weak and like he was hiding from us “big bad americans.”

if he actually fought back then it would give the image that he wasn’t a coward, etc, etc.

why would he be hiding in a hole anyway? i always thought that was weird.

OK I can see wanting to make him look like a coward to try to stop the Sunni insurgency. That makes sense. I still would like to hear what the other 18 men have to say. ;)

It is like any other conspiracy, how do you keep a bunch of people quite? The idea we never landed on the moon. How would they get all those people to keep quiet.
Same with this idea. There had to be literally hundreds of people there. Surely, more than one guy would have seen this and then reported it, especially if they thought they could sell the story to the press.

I need more proof. Perhaps video of the actual shoot out or the other 18 guys.

Well, of course we never landed on the moon, silly. It was all done in a sound studio in Area 51. The set is now kept in Warehouse 23.

    :P

    Just kidding.

I agree that more proof is needed. I also would like to know where this guy is in a few months…you know, in case he just disappears. ;)

Why would he just disappear? This is not the Clinton Administration!
The strange thing is his background, where he if from and where is currently staying. Makes one wonder why he is the only one.

[…] People — o.k. Left-wingers — have been making a lot of references to 1984, comparing many of the things the current administration has done to the Orwellian world. Let’s face it, there’ve been a number of revelations of press releases and press ops that appear to have been completely staged or have been suggested to have been, including the Jessica Lynch rescue, the capture of Saddam Hussein, Bush’s recent teleconference with soldiers in Iraq, and his photo ops with rescue and restoration crews in New Orleans and Mississippi following Hurricane Katrina. Then there have been the efforts by the White House and the administration to hide the American dead, whether it be coffins returning from the Middle East or bodies found unattended in New Orleans.
