What? Meddling in the Middle East Wasn’t Enough?

The US (er- Bush) just can’t mind our own business. We’ve overstretched ourselves, our resources, our military, and our big noses and yet we just can’t resist moving on to another non-Democratic country before we’ve finished helping the two we’ve already messed up.

So, now we are butting our big noses into Cuba’s business. Mind you, greater men and administrations have tried this before, but then, they weren’t King George and His Merry Madmen.

I must admit I was a little surprised to see this story today on CNN.com

HAVANA, Cuba (AP) — Cuba’s Communist Party on Monday harshly criticized the U.S. government for creating a post to oversee a transition to democracy on the Caribbean island, accusing American officials of intruding in the country’s domestic business.

U.S. President George W. Bush “once again meddles in a rude manner in the internal affairs of Cuba by naming one of his men to publicly coordinate subversive actions against the island,” the Granma newspaper said in a signed editorial.

Really that’s kind of — what’s the word I’m looking for?

Egotistical?
Arrogant?
Cocky?

Erm. Pick one of those I guess.

So apparently back in 2004, Powell headed a commission to prepare a report on how to assist Cuba in becoming democratic and force Castro’s government out. A position called “transition coordinator” was created just for this purpose. Mind you, Cuba didn’t ask for a “transition coordinator”, but who cares, right? As long as Freedom is on the March!

I wonder how Bush will tie this into his “global struggle against violent extremists” since Cuba has pretty much been sticking to itself. I almost never hear about them bombing train stations in other countries or turning airplanes into missles.

I kind of like this quote from Cuba myself. I think they’ve got a good idea of what’s going on in King George’s mind…well, as good an idea as any of us does.

“In Iraq, a U.S. coordinator was also named … but for that they had to wait to invade and militarily occupy the nation,” the editorial said.

I think if we invade another country without reason or support and without cleaning up the messes we’ve already created, we will bring the entire world down on us and it ain’t going to be pretty.
