The 15 minute plan
So, the plan recommended by the shrink and the substitute doctor is to do activities in 15 minute segments so as to keep the muscles active but not put too much strain on them.
This weekend I made an attempt to start going through all my clothes to pack away the Winter clothes and the clothes that are just too small at the moment. It thought it would be easier since I’d be sitting. I guess I never realized how many muscles I used to fold clothes. My back and left arm were in agony by the end of the day.
On Sunday, I set out to make some headway on my kitchen. It was horrible. I don’t know how to describe it and quite frankly if you know how I feel about cooking and keeping my kitchen cleaner than clean, you’d realize that the combination of depression, illness and accident has had a terrible effect on my favorite room in the house.
So there I was standing in the kitchen, with shoes on (and I hate wearing shoes), non-latex plastic gloves, and one of those masks you use for painting or doing carpenter work. I had the iPod playing all the fast songs and I pulled out the new broom and just jumped into the fray.
There’s still several loads of dishes to do. I plan to do one load each night of dishes and laundry this week so hopefully those two projects will be done by the weekend. Then I can figure out what’s next — probably the bedroom and upstairs bath.
N2 will be here on the 19th supposedly and I’d like to have some semblence of neatness. I’m not as worried about her arrival as my parents.
So, I’ve decided that due to the back injury, I’m going to hire a maid service in September to come in just once and do a serious cleaning under the appliances and etc. so as to feel less stressed about my parent’s arrival.
