Find Latoyia Figueroa
Found this at In Search of Utopia who found it at iFlip-Flop. As David so eloquently points out, there is hypocricy in the fact lack of coverage for this particular story of this particular pregnant missing mother of one, who, while apparently quite beautiful, is not the usual blonde, anglo-saxon type that the media likes to flash on television screens and front page newspapers. This woman deserves as much media attention as Lacy Peterson and the young woman who went missing in Aruba.
I copied Howard’s post directly from Philly Future, where he started this thread about Latoyia Figueroa last week. Please help out on your site if you can. And help find Latoyia Figueroa:When the news of Latoyia Figueroa’s disapperance first made it onto the Philly Future front page last week, she was a relatively anonymous missing person. Unfortunately, she is still both relatively anonymous and missing. That’s the continuing sad truth of the matter.
The hopeful news is that, thanks to local bloggers like Richard at All Spin Zone, and those who’ve followed his lead, her name is starting to get out, and hopefully her face has a greater chance of being seen by someone who may be able to help find her.
Richard’s post on Latoyia has been picked up by Evan Derkacz at Alternet.
Richard asks, and we echo his request, for all Philly area bloggers to put the word out on their blogs about Latoyia Figueroa, who’s been missing for over a week now. Include a picture of her. Even if you only get one visitor a day, every little bit helps raise awareness of this missing Philadelphia woman, who is not only five months pregnant, but also has a seven-year-old waiting for her at home.
Another course of action Richard has suggested is to write an email to Nancy Grace.
at CNN, who has provided wall-to-wall coverage of missing teenager
Natalee Holloway. In a world where only the white-skinned, blond-haired
young women seem to be missed by the mainstream media, these are some
ways to help bring Latoyia’s story a little attention too.UPDATE: CNN is covering the story.

First off I have been following this beautiful young mother’s case in the media….I am highly offended by how many websites state “she’s not white”. Obviously no she is NOT white, but what the hell does race have to do with anything. I happen to be of the caucasian race, and what I have noticed is that more African-Americans note the racial issue than any other race…so miss thing what does that tell you? Maybe if more people helped in her search rather than note her race and ethnic background this tragic case would come to a close. I did leave my email address above (peticcah@yahoo.com) of you feel that there is something that you need to further note-i’d be more than happy to oblige you. (Just some personal backgorund info on me….I am not a racist or a bias person…I grew up in low-income neighborhoods and I am currently engaged to my boyfriend of 5 years who is Black) — Holly

I’m sorry you took offense to my comment about her race. I’m offended that you in fact assume that I am a racist or biased person. I come from an Irish/Scottish background and grew up in the South. My best friends growing up were mostly black though I didn’t notice until I was denied the use of a bathroom in Alabama because of the company I kept.
I pointed out the fact that she is not white because I see a problem with the way the media treats stories of missing people who are minorities. It is obvious that the media clamps on to stories of beautiful white women and girls and that is an unfair discrimination because all it does is harm the chances of successfully finding the person in a timely manner. I am angered that this sort of discrimination continues.
So maybe take that ‘tude down a bit. We’re all on the same side here.

Holly,
Race does matter. Racism is still in full effect. I am a mother of mixed-race children and you will learn that racism still exist through the experiences of your future children.

Finally, it’s over!!! Thank God. I told you people. This woman’s dangerous lifestyle finally catches up to her just as her mother’s did. If you people worked harder, she wouldn’t have ended up dead. Read all of my posts and learn from them. Also, the next time you USE a missing woman for one of your political causes, actually do something to help find her. You people, and your lack of REAL effort, have LaToyia’s blood on your hands. When you go through your day today, and every time you look into the sky for the rest of your life, think of me, think of LaToyia, and think about what little you really did to save her. Ricchard and the All-Spin Zone failed miserably, and it’s not going unnoticed.

Well, Mike, since you left no links to any previous posts on the subject, I can’t comment.
I wasn’t using Latoyia for any political cause. I don’t know anyone who was using her.
I did go glance over at CNN and the police are currently reporting that they foubnd remains they believe are hers and that there’ll be a 10am press conference. I don’t know anything about her lifestyle or her mother’s, so I don’t know how you think that contributed.
I also don’t know why you think her blood is on anyone’s hands but the person who may or may not have killed her.

BESIDES ALL THAT WAS SAID I THINK THAT REALLY BOTH WOMEN DESERVE THE SAME ATTENTION BUT REALISTICALLY LATOYIA FAMILY AND FRIENDS WENT OUT FAITHFULLY EVERYDAY FOR HOURS LOOKING FOR THERE LOVE ONE MAKING SURE THAT THEY GOT THE ATTENTION FROM THE MEDIA SO THAT THEY CAN GET ALL THE HELP THEY CAN. THAT’S WHY LATOYIA CASE GOT SO MUCH ATTENTION BUT THAT’S WHAT THE DESERVE PEOPLE ARE ONLY GOING TO GET WHAT THEY PUT OUT FOR. PEOPLE SAY ITS ALL ON THE MEDIA BUT IT’S REALLY NOT, IF A FAMILY OF A MISSING PERSON CARES THEY WILL GO OUT JUST LIKE THE FIGUEROA AND DO WHAT THEY GOT TO DO. SO THEREFORE I THINK THE LATOYIA CASE DESERVE THE ATTENTION THEY GOT BECAUSE THEY LOOKED FOR IT.
