Real Tip on Changing Your Nose Screw
Since several people have dropped by searching the web looking for actual help in trying to put in their nose screw, I have made a serious effort to actually write up directions from my experience. So, here you go:
(Please note that you should not be changing your nose screw for 6 to 8 weeks after the piercing or per your piercer’s directions)
- After you’ve removed your current nose screw, clean the area using the cleaning solution provided by your piercer.
- Place the flat of your thumb inside your nose, pressing against the inner hole. This should widen the outer hole a bit, giving you a better visual on the outside to start.
- Insert the poiny end of the screw into the outer hole and beging to turn clockwise, screwing in the nose screw. When you feel the tip of the nose screw on your thumb, remove your thumb and continue to turn screw until it easily slides in.
As a side note, some screws need to be turned counterclockwise. Don’t be afraid to try this.
And practice makes perfect.
Good luck!

I’m so frustrated, I’ve tried it like a zillion times, and after a whole day of crying and begging the screw to come in, I’ve decided to just sleep and go tomorrow to get it put back in. I didn’t want to go again, well, I’ve had it for months, and now I had the brilliant idea this morning of taking it out - but it refuses to go back in, it’s like I had a hole in the outside but not in the inside, so weird. I’ll stop with the frustation and go again to the shop.

I’ve only had my nose pierced for about 4 or 5 weeks. It was about 11:30pm and I really needed to clean it so I pulled it out just a bit so I could get inside cleaned well and somehow it fell in my hand. I tried to get it back in and couldn’t call anyone that late on a weeknight. After trying for 30 minutes, my 10 year old tried, then my husband, then I tried again.
In a panic I turned to the net and found your tips. After 5 minutes, two tries, and a very sore nose realizing I could only screw so far before I had to push, I got it YEA!!!!
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH FOR THE HELP. I search for almost as long as I tried to get it back in the first time and was almost going to give up & hope it didn’t close before I could get help tomorrow. Glad I didn’t.
Thank you, Thank You, Thank you!! (Can you tell I’m grateful…lol)

You are awesome - it worked first time like a charm! My nose piercing is 3 weeks old and I wanted to see if I could put in a nose bone instead - but it turns out my nose is still a little swollen on the inside and the bone kept wanting to pop back out. So I realized I had better put the original nose screw back in that I had inserted by my piercer. But of course I couldn’t turn the damn thing in right. Your instructions are great - I am going to bookmark this site for future reference.

It took me a while to figure out that you had to push as well, and after the screaming and irritation, I figured it out that you had to push it after turning the ring and its at the bottom of your nose (mine is pierced on the left, so I don’t know if it would make a difference) but then after pushing a great deal, and it did begin to bleed and puss a little, then I turned the ring to the left and towards the top of my nose and towards my eyes, and it eventually slipped right in. It hurt like hell when I had to push it but it wouldn’t go in any other way…good luck and I hope it gets easier.

Thanks for posting this. I’ve never had a big problem before changing my nose screw, it came out this morning and for some reason it was impossible to get back in. Of course, panic ensued, as did inflammation, and neither of those things helped. Reading your instructions and the comments from others who’ve experienced similar frustration helped a lot and I finally got it back in.
A tip to anyone reading: if you’ve been mucking around for awhile, try putting a cold cloth on your piercing hole to take down the swelling and just relax for a little while. You might also use some kind of lubricant to help(I used a dab of Vaseline).

For those of you who like the nose screws, I have found that if you take tweezers and bend the curve out a bit more straight… It works easily to put the screw back in also. My sister in law had to come help me 1 week after my peircing because mine fell out in the shower. I fought for 2 hrs trying to put back but with no luck. I guess my nose is thicker than the screw can take I am not sure. I can never find the inside hole after I get it through the outside. So all of my nose screws I have bent the round out of them a bit more as to allow more of a straght shot into the entire piercing. I have absolutely NO trouble putting them back in now. I can change daily without problems or soreness. Its only been 10 weeks since I had it done. I find its also helpful to change it right after you take a shower.

Its a little longer in the inside than i like but id rather have that then have to go thru gettin my nose pierced again. My nose bled but stopped really quick. I cleaned it immediately, I had to bend it out with fingernail clippers cause there was no way that thing was bending with pliers..it was still hard with clippers! THANK YOU SO MUCH NAT!!!!

I tryed to follow your instructions but the screw would’nt go in. I could get a stud earing in without much trouble so to save the hole and to avoid a trip to the piercing studio I put in a hoop. I went on the internet and found several sources of piercing jewelry and piercing supplies a item called a taper is sold I bought one the size of my screw and piercing 18ga. the style I bought was 3 inch and had a cup at one end for the jewelry to follow through the piercing. all you need to do is get the taper in like a stud earing and push it almost all the way through the continue pushing with the nose screw and it is part way in. the taper comes loose and you finish pushing it all the way in. I got into trouble when I decided to change my screw from a smaller ball (1.5 mm) to a larger (5 mm) ball. my wife helped me. It was impossible for her to get the new screws in without doing this method. I now have the larger balls on each side of my nose. I will take the smaller screws to my piercer and have them put in above the larger balls. my wife told me that she thinks the idea looks good on a man. By the way I got the tools from painful pleasures a USA company they showed up on google
