Accident Update

Posted in My Life, Wellness by n. mallory

Gosh it’s been such a bad month for me hasn’t it. I’m glad that July is almost over.

O.K. So, saw the substitute doctor today. He was very nice. I really am impressed with that practice. He did another general physical check of my reflexes and the areas that hurt and my mobility and all. Then I was off to X-ray which was just upstairs. The whole thing took over two hours including having two doctors looking at my X-rays. They did not find any fractures or bone breakage in any part of my

WordPress Makes It To Forbes Favorite!

Forbes; Review of WordPress

In February, open source blogging application WordPress came out with its release 1.5, and we’ve found that this release puts WordPress squarely ahead of its competition (namely MovableType, which has begun to shift its focus away from consumers and onto enterprises). Although wrangling together a domain name and Web hosting space and then uploading the WordPress software can be intimidating to newcomers, once it’s set up this hosted option is one of your easiest for ongoing use. You can download and tweak visual themes that make your blog look radically different from the plain default Kubrick

Glimpsing My Muse…

Posted in Writing, Geekery, Roleplaying by n. mallory

I’m feeling kind of odd this morning. Last night I admitted to myself and SuzyQ something I hadn’t wanted to admit but had been feeling for some time. Perhaps I’ve been on the verge of this for a while.

I started playing roleplaying games late in my life in 1994. They have been a big part of my life — the creativity, the escapism, the socialness of it all. I’ve been both player and GM and I’ve both enjoyed and hated both at times. I started Play-by-email games not long after I guess. It’s sort

CIA Leak Case By the Numbers

Posted in Politics & Causes, The World by n. mallory

The following comes from democrats.gov’s website where they currently have a clock tallying the number of days, hours, minutes and seconds that the Republican’s have not spent investigating the CI Leak case. (Currently it is over 742 days as of this posting.)

As Earl Pitts, Redneck American, has been known to say, “Wake up, America!

Number of days after the article outing Ambassador Wilson’s wife appeared that the White House required its staff to turn over evidence relating to the leak: 85

Approximate hours between then-White House counsel Alberto Gonzalez’s advance notification to White House Chief of Staff Andy Card that

Cost of Pain & Suffering?

Posted in My Life, Wellness by n. mallory

By now, I think y’all know the basics of my car accident last week and all the doctor fun.

The lady’s insurance company has agreed to pay all car damages and medical bills. Because the car damage will end up being over $500 (they discovered one more part that hast to be replaced that with labor puts it at about $525), my insurance company is going to handle collecting that money plus the medical bill charges from them (including co-pays on meds). (So far, I’ve had one Dr visit and 3 prescriptions but have to go

Trivia Question: Bell, Book, & Candle

I know that the cat in Bell, Book, and Candle is called Pyewackett and that the beatnik club they go to is The Zodiac, but was was the name of Gil’s shop?

It’s bugging me and I haven’t been able to find it on google. :(

Real Tip on Changing Your Nose Screw

Posted in My Life, Nose Piercing by n. mallory

Since several people have dropped by searching the web looking for actual help in trying to put in their nose screw, I have made a serious effort to actually write up directions from my experience. So, here you go:

(Please note that you should not be changing your nose screw for 6 to 8 weeks after the piercing or per your piercer’s directions)

  1. After you’ve removed your current nose screw, clean the area using the cleaning solution provided by your piercer.
  2. Place the flat of your thumb inside your nose, pressing against the inner hole. This should widen the outer hole

Short People Ain’t Got No…Laptop Desks

Posted in Geekery by n. mallory

I have a laptop desk that adjusts in height, but the lowest it will go is 26″ from the ground. That’s 2 to 3 inches higher than what would be ergonomically correct for someone of my height and frame, even if I am a bit on the chubby side. However, I’m finding it impossible to find one that goes lower.

I have a similar issue at work. The have had to provide me with a step to rest my feet on when I’m sitting in my office chair working on my computer because they can’t lower the chair

In case of emergency ICE

Posted in My Life by n. mallory

Paramedics will turn to a victim’s cell phone for clues to that person’s identity. You can make their job much easier with a simple idea that they are trying to get everyone to adopt: ICE.

ICE stands for In Case of Emergency. If you add an entry in the contacts list in your cell phone under ICE, with the name and phone no. of the person that the emergency services should call on your behalf, you can save them a lot of time and have your loved ones contacted quickly. It only takes a few moments of your time to do.

I Did Not Vote 4 Bush

Posted in Politics & Causes, The World by n. mallory

Apparently, I wasn’t the only one who thought about making a statement with those tacky plastic wristbands. You can buy a black wristband that proclaims “I DID NOT VOTE 4 BUSH” to the world. The wristbands are $3 a piece and they have bumper stickers for $1 a piece. The family that has started this has donated $41K to progressive causes like the Human Rights Campaign, Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, Americans United for Separation of Church & State, and Planned Parenthood among many others.

This could very well be

What’s Up, Doc?

Posted in My Life, Wellness by n. mallory

O.K. So, a little health update is in order.

I went to the GP last night — missed my stained glass class again because the doctor couldn’t see me until 7:45pm. After an examination, she decided that I probably haven’t broken anything, though if the pain gets worse or doesn’t get better by the end of the weekend, I have to go back in for x-rays. In the meantime, I’m taking valium 3 times a day for 5 days, I have a super-version of alleve that I’m to take 2 times a day for 7 days, and I

Today’s London Bombing

O.K. I’ve mentioned this to two people I know, but the conspiracy theorist in me really wants it written down somewhere in case I’m right.

I think that this set of bombings in London this morning, just two weeks after the nightmare that killed over 50 and injured plenty more, is more likely a copycat bombing attempt. My reasoning is that

Are Role-playing Games Killing My Muse?

Posted in Writing, Geekery, Roleplaying by n. mallory

When I was little, I was always making up stories in my head. I’d have conversations between characters in there. Sometimes I’d even act out scenes. Sometimes Barbies were involved, I believe. ;)

I also played with the girl next store and we would re-enact movies we loved or pretend to be cartoon or t.v. characters and play in her backyard or my living room. I sort of outgrew that foolishness, but I did turn several of my creative musings that came from this into short stories and one really bad novel in high school.

In college, I

Missing the Big Picture…

So Molly Ivins wrote a brilliant editorial at freepress.org about how Americans seem to be missing the point with this whole Karl Rove thing. We’re focusing on who the leak was and whether or not it was a criminal act and losing site of the fact that it was done as political payback to a man who disagreed with President Bush’s so-called evidence of WMD in Iraq.

Actually, we are missing the point here. The point being that Joseph Wilson is merely one of the many people who provided one of the by now innumerable pieces of evidence

Googlebomb: Pop-Up Blockers

Posted in Geekery, Blogging & Other Blogs by n. mallory

Passing this on from Geek Ramblings:

Has your blog been spammed with ads for a Popup Blocker for Internet Explorer?

If you are getting here through a search on Popup Blockers or for Pop-Up Blocker or Pop Up Blocker Internet Explorer, please do not buy from pop-upblocker dot org They are spammers and unethical. ADB Popup Blocker and ANB Pop Up Blocker are from the same company and you should not buy their product. Any SEO people want to help me get this post up on top on the SEs?

Ever Wonder What The Iraqis Think About How The U.S. Brought Them Freedom

Here is a post from a blog run by an Iraqi. Bush supporters are always telling me that the media is simply reporting only bad things about Iraq and leaving out the good stuff “we’ve” done, but when I read things like this, I feel more confident in my conviction that the U.S. made a huge mistake and is responsible for every drop of blood spilt.

Yet, even these big numbers are not enough to stimulate the western media poets and the occupation governments’ spokesmen to write about the “tragic death of civilians” and the “value of human lives”.

RIP: James Doohan

When the series ended in 1969, Doohan found himself typecast as Montgomery Scott, the canny engineer with a burr in his voice. In 1973, he complained to his dentist, who advised him: “Jimmy, you’re going to be Scotty long after you’re dead. If I were you, I’d go with the flow.”

Karl Rove leaked a CIA agent to the press for political gain

Posted in Politics & Causes, In the News, The World by n. mallory

In case anyone missed it, there’s a really good post at Preemptive Karma on this subject. In fact, I couldn’t have said it better. With the Bush administration it’s all about smoke and mirrors. If there was a Democrat in the White House, Kenneth Star would already be investigating all the discrepencies and if he couldn’t find evidence to prove what an increasing number of Americans seem to be realizing, then he’d focus on Bush’s personal life. I honestly feel like in the face of being pressured to fire one of his buddies, he actually

Called the doctor

Posted in My Life, Wellness by n. mallory

My left arm and back are worse today. I am still having intermittent pain in my left leg as well. I also thing both ankles may be sore but the pain isn’t constant, even when I’m walking. Today I woke up with the pain whereas yesterday it took a good hour of moving around in my daily routine to get the ache going.

So, I called my doctor’s office. The soonest they could get me in is 7:45pm tonight.

I did talk to my mommy who called me really early as she was going out to work Hurricane
