NaNoWriMo
So, I signed up for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). I’ve been meaning to do it for 2 years and kept missing the deadline for the sign up. Best as I can tell at the moment the goal is to write a 50,000-word novel between November 1rst and midnight November 30th. Quality is unimportant apparently which will be hard for me to get over. I think it’ll be good for me as I tend to dwell a lot on research and getting things just right and that is not what all this is about. Maybe I can get a story laid out and then go back and sort it all out.
I’m leaning toward writing something dark fiction like with vampires, vampire hunters, and the people in the middle of it all. I’ll probably set it in New Orleans which is sadly stereotypical but it’s where I come from myself though my view of New Orleans is different from Anne Rice’s. Rice used way too many stereotypes that were just not true and I wanted to write her nasty letters from time to time though I liked most of her books.
I’d really like to write some sort of Celtic Space Opera but I feel like it needs too much research. So does my western novel idea about one of the few women Deputy US Marshalls in the old West.
Anyway, I haven’t figured out how NaNoWriMo works yet and I’ll probably be using Thanksgiving and it’s following weekend to write 30K words but at least I’ll make an effort and hopefully it’ll get me back into writing more regularly and writing for more than Play-by-e-mail games.

Thanks for sharing this. I just signed up, too! I’m busy writing songs and working on getting ready to perform with my husband, but what the heck, I can write a novel too!
